New AAF

Post by scottr5213 »

I was thinking about doing some Army Airfields, and was wondering what the intrest would be here, and if anyone wanted to help out. I have started with Hood Army Airfield, and then wanted to go to Hunter.

Yes indeed, I would be very interested in a central Texas AAF.
( I was born at "Camp Hood" back durin' WWII. My Dad flew L-4's & L-5's).
Def would like to add it to my FS.

Be aware of a strange issue with the Fort Hood airports in FS2004.

If you go to KHLR - Hood AAF - you will find there are aprons elevated to 1,015 feet while the runway and taxiways are at the KHLR elevation of 924ft.

That is because you will find the KHLR aprons are in the KGRK default AFCAD.

Both airports need to be done together and the aprons for KHLR removed from the KGRK airport and created again on the KHLR airport file.

Two completely different AAF's, with units on both. I used AFCAD to remove the apron at KHLR that was at the wrong elevation, just haven't practiced with ADE9x yet to redo both AAF's to my standard.

KGRK- Joint use with small civilian terminal serving regional airlines (RJ's, Saab's, ATR's) to both DFW and Houston on the SE side. SW side is the military cargo apron for both mil cargo and contract flights (everything USAF/Omni, World, N. American). NW side serving OSA det (VIP C-12's, UC-35's) and RC-12's/UAV's. NE side all helos.

KHLR- No fixed wing, all helos on 3 ramps.
