ACG Coningsby

Post by rocket_26_ »

Only a few weeks from completion I would say now. Still some details to add, such as cars and some GSE/vehicles etc.

Thanks guys

The screens and the WIP is FSX SP2, but it should be pretty straight forward to convert to FS9. That being said, since I bought my new rig last week, I cant activate any scenery in Fs9. My scenery.cfg seems to reset when I restart the sim.

Cheers

Hi Ian,

Stunning work. Your scenery.cfg issue is probably because you have FS9 installed on your C drive. Regardless of your security settings, the C drive appears to get an extra layer of security that you can't stop doing this. To get round it, you need to move your FS9 onto a different drive.

I would imagine this lovely looking scenery requires a grunty beefed-up PC to run it smoothly with AI installed.
I once developed a range of high quality models/textures for a scenery only to find that I couldn't run the scenery with AI installed due to memory issues. My single core 3.2ghz PC just wasn't big enough to power it.
I guess most of the new PC's should run it OK.

Mark you'd be surprised at how well Ian's scenery runs even on modest setups. The twin bases scenery ran pretty well even on my old machine with the AI in there as well.

Mark, I can confirm what Mike says.
Ian spends almost as much time on reducing the fps overhead as he does on the actually scenery. I have been involved in beta testing his stuff and you would be amazed at the speed that you can get with his detail.

I may have to ask for a few tips on how its developed.
I tried doing more updates to Amberley with new models representing the construction of the super base but that FS2004 default memory leak in the area causes CTD on startup, I don't know how to fix it or if its possible to fix it. I can add a few models but they must be super light on textures or I need to remove GSE.

Mark, as Ian I'm sure would confirm, it's all about draw calls and LOD's. The texture draws are the big fps killers. Have you ever noticed how the untextured models are always loaded first and the textures are what take a few seconds to load up. The models themselves are not the real problem children, it's those darn pretty texture sheets that we like to make use of. To work around that you can make model groupings of several structures as just one model that only calls a single texture. Also creating all the trees as a single model helps a lot.

Ian can give you some great tips.
