East/West Coast C-5s

Post by wbunnell »

These Packages are superb, I haven't run the whole setup yet, so far so good. Congratulations.
Regardless of which Airport I go to, both packages of C-5s have the MLG setting halfway in the ground.
Plus the Nose is facing left, after the gear turns right then left.

Hmmm..... Are you looking at them as AI or are you loading them as user aircraft. I have seen that when I loaded one up as a user aircraft to take some screenshots.

I used the AirEd file to make them visable. All aircraft do the same thing.

There's gotta be something with your setup. Here are my C-5s at Dover AFB.

Re-edit your .air file to make them not visible in the selection menu and then only look at them as AI aircraft. There seems to be something weird with this model.

Ran both East and West, in MAIW setup, each aircraft sat on taxi way as designed, all wheels above ground. They cannot be used seperatly, for own use.

Woah there!
You may be right but to out right state that there is nothing at fault on your system may not be accurate, the reason I say that is that no beta testers found this issue.

So if you have found a previously unknown bug we have to eliminate possible causes. So can you confirm that you are using FS9, that you have tried un-installing and re-installing the package, and that you have no additional afcads active for a chosen airfield. Also can you confirm that you haven't altered anything that was installed by the package.

Also can you let us know a specific base to concentrate on fixing and if you have any third party mesh installed that may affect that area.

I am using FS9 and I haven't, un-installed and re-installed the program, there are no other Afcad for any of the airports I used
The only alteration I made was with the AirED program.
I downloaded the package to a separate folder, took the Aircraft from the package and ran them separate, from the package. The wheels below the ground was with the Altered airEd file.
After I corrected the AirEd file, I ran the package the way it was supposed to run, the aircraft did set on top of the ground.

The problem I having is when I select a aircraft from the package, and run it so it can be seen, is when the aircraft wheels are half way in the ground.

So in other words there's no problem. The package works as it should. :smt001

AI aircraft are never designed to be used as a user aircraft.

From Pascal's "readme" which comes with both parts of the C-5 package;

"This model was designed as an AI only plane"

This is a known issue : the AI C-5, used as a flyable model, sink into the ground.
I could do nothing about it, it must be an issue related with the xml coding for all the animations I use.

You will have to live with it...

Greg,

Absolutely! Many AI aircraft models require contact point locations and other aircraft.cfg settings that do not work when trying to use as a user flyable aircraft. That is why all of our AI models have the statement "FOR AI USE ONLY" displayed prominently in their aircraft.cfg files.

    wbunnell,
Hopefully that solves your issue. I used to like all the AI visible in the menu but when I found that it actually increased the load time in FS9 I went round and altered all the AI planes.

My guess is that, most of the people that use these Packages, have no desire to use them in another format.
These aircraft, and a lot of others from these packages, can be used in FSX, but, that requires you to have a picture of the aircraft in the texture folder, in order to see them in the "Select Aircraft", folder.

I have had a lot of success in doing just that, I haven't tried the full package yet, But I'm sure I will sometime.
I understand these packages are difficult to make, and consume a lot of time and effort on behalf of the person doing it. I give those people a lot of credit for their effort and thank them for their work.

The statement "FOR AI USE ONLY" is a easy way to say, how dare you, try to do anything different with these packages.

I guess you could wait for the package come out, for FSX, or you could make a picture yourself, but then again the packages are " FOR AI USE ONLY ".

As far as I'm concerned, this subject is, CLOSED.

No, as Danny said, you're totally missing the point here. The purpose of that statement is to AVOID threads JUST LIKE THIS ONE.
