Populating European Skies

Post by DaveP1991 »

Just a little question. I mainly fly in Europe, the UK especially, obviously I've got RAF, Luftwaffe etc packages installed but I was just wondering if there are any more far afield packs that will add to the skies.

Obviously I have the Lakenheath & Mildenhall packs, just wondering if there are some others, probably the US that will turn aircraft up over Europe?

Cheers

Hello and welcome,
there are PLENTY of files which allow you to add military traffic for all the world!
Just have a look at this forum and you won't be disappointed!
Check Mark's and Ray's sites (marksfsrepaints.jimdo.com and rayparker-repaints.jimdo.com) for repaintsand the "My Projects/packages" section of this forum for flightplans and other stuff.
As for the USAFE aircrafts, Mark made repaints both for Spangdahlem and Aviano.
Flightplans for SP are available on Avsim alongside with a nice scenery, whereas flightplans for AV are in the "My Projects/packages" section, the name of the thread is "My flightplans". I also made an ADE9X scenery for Aviano, always have a look in the forementioned section.

Additionally, many of the US packages send traffic to world wide locations, therefore, if you install those packages, you will see visitors to your European skies.

Thats the sort of ones I was looking for. Any specific ones or just guess that trainers are not going to cross the Pond but C-17s and B-52s might?

Yep, that's pretty much the size of it.

If you download all the packages, and install them into a temporary folder, you can then go and look at the flightplan files to see what airports are visited.

Then you can go on to installing the select bunch of packages that actually land aircraft in Europe. Bear in mind that some other packages may still send traffic over Europe in transit - even if the planes don't actually stop over.

That is good advice, but don't limit yourself to the heavies. C130's and fighters all travel around quite a lot. Even tho the air refueling isn't modeled en-route, the world is accessible to them, therefore the trips are modeled. A surprisingly large amount of traffic in fact. Use search on this forum to find a link to The Owl's Nest. It will be your friend!

On another note, Michael Pearson just posted several packages of military traffic for Eastern European/Asian skies. Thanks much.
