Don't know if someone already knows this unbelievable story, completely new for me.

I agree. Also if they wouldn't have been in so much of a rush and really checked the aircraft out they might have seen some other potential problems.

I can't say I have very much sympathy for the people who restored that beauty-it caught fire after a jury rigged fuel line leaked fuel in the fuselage?? Surely thats fairly basic when your checking through the aircraft.

I hate to see a plane like that going up in flames, but if it had to go, I'm glad it went on the ground, if that had happened in the air those inside would have been killed.

There was a good story/something similar (P-38) 'resucue' in the polar regions (Greenland perhaps?). Love this kind of stuff..thanks for posting.

That would be "Glacier Girl" and it was quite a restoration apparently
