Naval Station Norfolk
Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Here it is. All 22 Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers, 6 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers, 4 O.H. Perry Class Frigates. All ships are individually numbered. I know that all these ships aren't in port at the same time, but a quick representation of them. I will further refine the parking of the ships later in the week.

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Matt,
Looks great!! If they were all in plus the carriers I might as well stay home as I-64 and 564 would be a parking lot
I haven't d/l the DDG's yet but are they all the same model or do they have the different versions? Like the one with the Helo hangers?

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Joe, admittedly I have been very lazy the last few weeks/months and haven't been working on my projects. Its summertime in Northern New England so I have to live it up while we still have nice weather. So, unfortunately, in a word no. However, I do plan on finishing it before the end of October.

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Understand completely. Been really slack on the FS scene here, too. Yard work, ballgames, outdoor projects, motorcycle rides, etc. take precedence in the summer.

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
This is very nice work. I am glad to see someone put effort into the rotary-wing areas of Naval Station Norfolk. I have been slowly improving my FSX version with two separate AFX airport files so the helicopters operate independent of the main runway. The pier areas are excellent too! My default scenery displays strips of grass and trees where the piers are in real life and with FSX my road traffic goes over the runway instead of under. I wish I could help with this scenery in someway.

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Matt,
A while back I was telling you they were doing construction at Taxiway S. Well they have finished it up almost. I don't think they have done any painting yet, but they are done with the paving operations. anyways the attached pic is what I can see as I drive down I-564 in the morning. I believe they have extend the apron to connect to taxiway E as seen by my scribbles. I also drew in the new taxiway signs and lights that weren't there before. Hopefully Google Earth will have an updated pic of this area soon for you.

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
A great looking piece of scenery, can't wait for the release
Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Here are a few more updates from Norfolk. I have finished the hangars on the heliport, as well as the HM-15 hangar. I still have to work on the AMCM shop on the HM-15 ramp. The AMC terminal is more or less complete. I am going to make the connecting roads and parking area as well. I am still debating weather or not to build the piers for the ships. Here are some screenies for you guys.
The AMC Terminal:

HMM-774 Hangar:

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Matt, what I would suggest is get the main airfield done as you want it. Only then think about how you want to enhance the scenery and the area. Think of it as the main functionality as v1. You can release it as such or not, this is purely your choice. The Enhancements are v2.LEBTowerGuy wrote:I am still debating weather or not to build the piers for the ships.
This approach has a couple of advantages. Firstly, it will stop the clamour from your adoring public about when it is going to be released

Looking good Matt. What are you using to model the structures? FSDS or Gmax?

I should smack you with something Mike
I am using gmax currently since it is the right price. I will hopefully be changing over to FSDS this summer.

Re: Naval Station Norfolk
Shoot, if you've already learned the basics of Gmax, I'd stick with that.
