I'm hearing a mix of civilian and mil traffic on the ATC - just like FS, with all MAIW packages activated. :smt003

Just found this on the MOD website.

"General Lorimer said today that the Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox has confirmed that Britain will be deploying Tornado and Typhoon to the Italian airbase of Gioia Dell Colle in the south of the country"

Around 5pm this evening I saw at least 1 possibly 2 B-52s heading westbound over my house in New Hampshire. They took a SW track from BGR and then a westbound turn around GFL. If I had to guess they were from Minot, judging by their westbound heading.

BOLO 15 beginning operations with tactical due regard. Can't find a BOLO in c/s book but I do have BOLAR which is a F-15 from Lakenheath

MISSION 19 left Malta to operate at FL100 and return to Malta. 1000 feet is very low, what kind of a/c would operate at that level, unless its tactical recon mission. Pilot was not UK or US.

With the usual breathtaking stupidity, Danish press apparently noted that some of the Danish vipers had the names of their engineers written on the fuselage. They then proceeded to note down those names, call every name in the phonebook matching them, and then reporting the outrage when they finally managed to get a hold of the wives of some of them.

Yet another thing that wasn't a issue until the press got involved

On the bright side, it would appear that our Vipers have already been flying twice since they arrived :smt001

Here in Italy, one of the journalist covering the event, said that at Sigonella is based Italian 41st wing(right), equipped with Breguet Atlantic (right) that can fly at 10.000 meters..... and that these aircraft are equipped with a radar that can cover an area of 300 km of range..... :?
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case....

The British press used to be atrocious for inaccurate reporting of military subjects, unable to even accredit correct ranks to individuals. However, since the advent of a concerted campaign by service charities and political pressure they've become much more savvy in this area.

I haven't seen a soldier referred to as a Lieutenant Corporal for years :-)

That's bad but it would be hard to beat the British press during the Falklands. That was galactic-ally stupid.

More details coming in....

3 B-2's from Whiteman AFB flew 25+ hour, non-stop, round trip missions to drop 45 individual 2000 pound JDAMs on critical targets.

Surprised they risked 3 of these for this mission.

USAF confirms one F-15E downed over Libya last night. One crewman recovered and ongoing op to recover the second. Not said if it was due to enemy action. Would explain the increased activity I'm hearing on Malta ATC
