RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Good Eyes Campbeme, I forgot about that glitch. Shouldn't be hard to fix as there are only 24 of them.
No matter any way for the short term as there doesn't appear to be any rush to release this package.

Hi Bell,
It's been a while since we chatted about ADF. I have just the place for a Static F111.
I'm redoing most of the RAAF bases as I go so expect a few more in the next 6-12 months, just got to get off my truck and APC thing at the moment.
There is a hint that Anthony Lynch from the former Voz Team going to update the sceneries for FSX users, so keep your finger crossed as Anthony is a master with sceneries and fine detail.

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Mark, I have a slight problem when I taxi onto the runway from the taxiway. There appears to be a drop or something and my aircraft front wheel breaks and crashes. I have checked the elevation as best as I can and all seems ok. (rwy17) I am using captain sim C130 and it is in FS9. Have you any ideas?
Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
I will check it out and get back to you but this is a first for Amberley V2 edition. There is a slight drop off the side of the taxiways like in real life so be sure that you keep your wheels on the taxiway.

Nigelf,
I can't find any problems with the scenery or afcad using a C-17. This version of YAMB scenery has been out now for 6 or more months and no one has reported any problems with it in that time. Perhaps you have parts of an older YAMB scenery lurking in your sim which is causing the issues that you describe. If it continues to annoy you, I suggest turning off your crash detection.

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Gents,
First off, I just installed this scenery as my first Australian military field, and it looks excellent. Very impressive and it looks busy as well, with lots of ground support equipment. I noticed the Super Hornet repaints further back in the thread, are these on general release by any chance? I can't see them on the usual download sites, so If I'm intruding into a forthcoming MAIW release, or anybody elses plans without knowing it, I apologise but if not, can somebody point in the correct direction please.
Just one other query, I'm sure I saw a reference on here somewhere to a FS9 scenery for Tindal, but can only find a FSX version on the usual download sites, again, am I looking in the wrong direction?
Hope the queries are ok.
Gary

Hi Gary,
At this point in time the answer to your question is no and yes.
YAMB scenery is recieving a face lift and hopefully down the track we will have it filled with all the AI that reside there.
That goes for Tindal and Williamtown as well, its a big job that should open a few eyes but all good things come in time.

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Thanks Mark, I kind of guessed that was the case, so worded the request appropriately. I'm known for my patience, so will keep watching! I took the plunge and downloaded VOZ 1.8 and installed it yesterday, then put Amberely back on top, which gave me a basic Tindal as well. All works fine, as I'm always a bit nervous about adding massive downloads to the sim.
I've added the AI C-17's and a couple of A330's, plus about a dozen of the Aussie AI F-111's so that will keep me happy for a while!
Many thanks for the efforts so far and look forward to what's coming.

No worries Gary, I believe that basic Tindal is the same version for FSX although FSX does draw things a little differently.
You may wish to note that YAMB, YMPC, YWLM sceneries have now been withdrawn from public webstes, I'll keep you posted there future developments.

Not sure what happened to Point Cook scenery either!
I can't be the only Aussie that has an interest in military and can model scenery objects, surely to god!
One would think so by that lack of it.

I may not be an Aussie, and my modelling skills are a bit average... but I *am* working on Nowra.. slowlyfishlips wrote: I can't be the only Aussie that has an interest in military and can model scenery objects, surely to god!

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Actually makes a lot of sense to me. Nowra is an Australian Naval Base south of Sydney where the New Zealand Air Force stationed Sky Hawks and helo's.
Do you know how hard it is to teach a KIWI "a Flightless Bird" how to fly! lol
I'm just really glad that Aussies aren't called 'Emu's'.

I guess being "flightless" came in handy, considering how low the guys flew the A-4's!

Yes, unfortunately too many found out just how low they could get, very sad!
Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
With my RAAF Amberley 2009 scenery now out of date, both building and afcad wise I have set about doing some tinkering with it and making the models more detailed using "level of detail" modeling techinques. This is a rather large base with lots of buildings that can be placed but I haven't put any real thought into where it may end up, so for now I'm only looking toward a basic shop front version with a more current ramp for the Airbus and C-17's to park.
It will also see the removal of many transparent alpha channel models that were causing issues when the scenery was used in FSX.
I will not be adding any tree's, animated lights or other things that are known to have issues in FSX. The FS9 alpha channel fence models will be used but will be in its own removable file, same goes with vehicles and odd bits.
There is still some real life construction going on around the edges so some buildings will be left out as I don't have good pic's of them, nor do I have any new pic's of the passenger/terminal/customs area. Yeap, this base has a terminal like that of any public airport, except its for processing it's own staff.
It probably will not come with a photo-real ground layer as I don't no how to do that, never learn't. I tried ADE a few years ago but it got to glitchy and complex for my liking. To many tricks to it.
It would be great if somebody could do that for me as it would improve the airport out of sight and make the afcad more correct to my guess work, would also look better in OrbX.
I use normally AFX for afcads and Instant Scenery for model placement in my private works, but I'd be happier to share the work load with a more experienced person in airport development in what ever program they prefer to use. My experience in this field is mostly making models for other people to place on there afcad - ground layers.
The invitation is out there and if you'd like to see this air base in your simulator, then it requires more than "well wishers" to bring it about. The big issue for me is getting the afcad and ground layer together so the models can be placed as they are made.
In your ball court!

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Ok, I've shown a few models that have been converted to multiple levels of detail and some extra work done to them to lift the over all detail. These models are lighter on frame rates on average but higher in detail when up close to them. Also I have extended the "distance to sight" of the models when approaching the airport to 10 mile, this is nearly twice the distance of many of the models in the 2009 version, so no longer will you see them popping in as you fly the ILS, which was very annoying.
I'm starting to get a good number of the models processed, some even getting a new paint job and some chippy work but I don't expect it to be completed any time soon.
Everything will depend upon finding a partner or two to do the photo ground and afcad work for which the models will be placed upon, how eager are you out there to have this air base in your simulator ???

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
For this project to eventially be brought to completion it is going to require some developer assistance in afcad/ground work. I can make the models but I'll need a skilled person / persons to do the general ground works like runway, taxiway, ground textures.

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
I maybe able to help with the afcad but I've a lot of other projects to finish yet. So if you're willing to be patient (could be 6 months if these projects are troublesome) then I'll happily help

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
Thanks Dan, but six months may be a little long to wait to get this project moving forward.
May be I'm asking a bit too much.
May be I'm flogging a dead horse here!

Re: RAAF (YAMB) Amberely Air Base, Queensland, Australia
I'll continue making more models to suit YAMB and we'll see where we end up!
One thing is for sure, having experienced development processes of aircraft manufacture it sure has made static scenery object development so much easier. It almost seems like I've finished an object before I even get warmed up.
I guess that is a good thing.
