I still chuckle at the name. I know that Yanks used to laugh over our choice of 'Nimrod' as the word has different connotations over there, along with our use of fag, for cigarette.

Not the only one this year - seems like the U.S. Navy is taking taking no prisoners; or is it that this level of dismissals is normal and we don't regularly hear of it happening?

No lately (the last couple of years) the Navy has been on a rampage. The military especially the Navy it seems is thining it's ranks from the lowly blue shirts (E-6 and below) to all khaki (E-7 and up) to save money. It seems every couple of months they are coming out with a different way of clearing out the ranks, to changing the physical fitness rules and getting rid of the 18 years of service safe harbor so the guy could retire, to the Perform to serve for the CPO to MCPO ranks with more than 19yrs of service.
For the officers especially the CO's you have to walk a very thin line. heck after looking over the list of CO's that got fired I guess they should have fired my first ship's CO after we hit a buoy in the approaches to the Humber River back in the mid 80's

Considering the amount of traffic that can always be found at low tide waiting to get into Grimsby and Immingham, I'm not surprised that he hit something

We're just making them redundant......no excuses except the blatant ones, just "you're out of a job"
