An Almost Fully Loaded RAF Coningsby

Post by mikewmac »

I have been tinkering and testing at RAF Coningsby for several days and below are a few panoramic screenshots of what my RAF Coningsby is now looking like. I had loaded up both the north and south sides of the runway with AI fighter aircraft as I tested for defects in both my drive through parking scheme and some of my latest AI FDE projects. :)

Enjoy! :)

Thanks Rip,

My RAF Coninsgby scenery setup is certainly not custom scenery, but I do think it gives an improved sense of realism. The drive through parking on the north ramp is really awesome to watch during the busy periods. Of course all the AI models are extraordinary and they even fly pretty decently.

There were 63 AI present at RAF Coningsby during those tests and I never saw a slide show.

BTW...When is your new AI project going to be ready for some AI FDE tuning?

I finish my experiments with candies like animated compressing gear, sailplanes and paratroopers now - I want the model to have somehow frozen geometry, before I will sent it to you. Just a few work-hours yet

Wow, Mike that looks fabulous, makes me think we dont need the UK2000 scenery at all, if your addon is so good. It looks great and its lovely to see the Typhoons lining up.
Great Work you've done us proud

Can i confirm that they are my HAS models? If so I have some updated models that you could use once they are finished, that I am currently using for some future sceneries. Whilst my Shaw scenery is on hold (lack of photos is preventing any further progress) I have been working on a Lakenheath scenery and the HAS ive used are simular. Heres a screenshot of couple i placed at EGUL.

rocket_26_,

The HAS objects that I used for my RAF Coningsby scenery were from the MAIW Osan package and if those were yours, then I used yours and I hope that it isn't a problem. Your work is excellent and they are some of the best HAS objects I have ever seen.

Certainly those new great looking brownish colored HAS of yours would be a better match for RAF Coningsby and would be great to use when you are finished with them. Will you be releasing them in an Library Objects package sometime soon?

Thanks Nick,

Obviously without custom designing all the scenery it wasn't possible to get perfect building matches, but with those great looking HAS I think it does give a bit more of a realistic feel to RAF Coningsby and sets off your excellent AI models quite well. I even added the 2 arresting cables on the runways so none of your Jaguars or Typhoons would overshoot and get bent up.

Yeah otter used them for his Osan scenery. I dont mind them being used. The texture i have used fo the new HAS, is from a close up photo I took of a HAS at Coningsby . I can model other buildings for you if you wish. I live near Coninsgby so photos and resources is not a problem.

Thanks Ian,

You do outstanding work and I think you would be a great asset to the scenery designing team here at MAIW. Have you considered joining up?

I'm certainly not a custom scenery object designer, but I can use AFCAD2 and can place the scenery library objects designed by others pretty well.

The biggest problem for me with my RAF Coningsby scenery was finding a hanger object that even remotely resembled the 3 big, main ones at RAF Coningsby. Of course I couldn't match any of the other buildings exactly either, but having a more realistic model for those 3 big hangers would be a huge step towards improving the realism.

Is creating a model(s) for those big hangers something that you would be interested in doing?

Im starting to model the hangers today, I will pop over to coningsby one day this week and get some photos of some of the buildings.
Regarding scenery for MAIW, my Shaw scenery was for a MAIW package. But down to the lack of resources i have put the scenery on hold. There were so many buildings I failed to find pics of and the ones i did were very low res. The bases over here are much easier for me.

I'm certainly interested in this work, Coningsby is a terrible gap in scenery!

Thanks Ian,

That is great news on you creating the 3 main EGXC hangers. :D

Good photos of any US airbases are usually pretty difficult to get unless current or former servicemen step forward and provide some. My old VT ANG unit had a detachment at Shaw while the local F-16's were on deployment, but I don't know whether they took any decent base photos.

Maybe someone with some personal photos taken at Shaw will see this thread and offer some up.

Heres the progress on the OCU (29 SQ)hanger. As you can see its untextured, once i get my decent camera to Coningsby I can get some better pics that i can use for textures. The ones I took today were basically good enough to get the shape. I will be doing the OEU and AMF hangers next, they are bit easier. I am also going to model the BBMF hanger, and also the buildings that are joined to the hangers. I have also been taking pics of the various other buildings which I am going to model shortly.

Ian,

Wow!!! That looks like a great start and if you do all those other buildings along with your latest brown HAS version, I think we will have the makings of a great RAF Coningsby custom scenery package. :D :D
