F-4D's Have Returned to the VT ANG at KBTV

Post by mikewmac »

Back in the day the VT ANG flew F-4D's for several years before transitioning to F-16A's. Now with the release of Mike Pearson's NMAI F-4D package, virtual F-4D's have been able to return to the VT ANG at Burlington IAP. :D

Below are a few random screenshots taken today. :D

Enjoy,

Mike M.

    Brian,

I live just outside of Burlington and used to see and hear them all the time. They were very fast, very loud and very smokey.

Of course I've watched the VT ANG fly P-47's, P/F-51's, F-84's, T-33's, F-89's, F-102's, EB-57's, F-4's and F-16's. The only ones that I got up close and personal with were the T-33's, F-102's and an old "Gooney Bird". Oops! I guess I just dated myself, didn't I?

I think the scenery is the one from Brian Gladden, available here : http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=40851

There is the sema hangar in this scenery.

Yes, that VT ANG hangar is from Brian's scenery, but has been moved to a more realistic position on the ramp. Most of the other scenery on the civilian side of the runway is Brian's and I placed all the scenery on the VT ANG side myself. I did this several years ago and it is somewhat dated now and in need of a complete update. :(

        Barry,

No, I was out of the VT ANG by the time they were flying the F-4D's, so I wasn't able to get any photos up close and personal. However, I do have some more recent photos of the 2 remaining VT ANG F-4D's that I supplied Mike P. for his repaints. I'll hunt them up and post them here when I get a chance.

          Barry,

Below are a few photos of the real VT ANG F-4D's. I took some of these and some were taken by other folks. I have a lot of detail photos that I took of AF 66-712, but I won't bore you with those.

BTW...I know the pilots whose names are on the repainted and still in existence AF 65-793 and AF 66-712. I grew up with one of them and played high school football with him. One is now a retired Brigadier General and the other a retired Colonel

Yes, that KBTV AFCAD has much more realistic, modern ramp and hangar parking for 32 fighters, most of which have drive through parking. However, it is still a work in progress and part of a package that I am slowly (very) developing for future public release. So much time has elapsed since I started the project that some of the buildings have been demolished and new ones have been built. So I have a lot of work to do before I can even begin to think about releasing or distributing any of it :(

              Sorry,

              Mike M.

The original J79s before the upgrade weren't too dissimilar to that in mil power. Part of the reason why our boys always enjoyed ACM against them very useful in a dogfight knowing exactly where the enemy is.

Cool screenshots Mike. Brings back memories of the day I was visiting my dad in his "office" at the Burlington airport and the F-4's did a max performance takeoff to the south. I probably have some hearing damage from that...
