+1, big hits to the fighter units. I didn't realize we had so many RC-26's in the ANG fleet.

Yes the RC-26 is rather low key. It has a lot to do with there mission. At least it looks like they are going to get MC-12s to replace them.

I feel bad for the units like Battle Creek who lost their A-10s down state to Selfridge only to be given one or two C-21s to fly while they wait for their new mission and aircraft (C-27J's) now only to be told that this won't be happening either. But hey, we will give you a trailor where you can remotely operate UAVs from right there at Battle Creek. A lot of those former A-10 guys stuck around thinking they would eventually get to fly something with a dark gray paint scheme again. I don't think Reapers
and Predators are what the had in mind.

Then places like Mansfield who currently have their C-27Js are gonna have those aircraft yanked right out from under them leaving them with nothing. That airport will officially die once the Guard unit is disbanded.

Actually it's not that many RC-26's, something like one plane per unit. Depending on what Congress does, if the Air Force does cut the C-27J, then it should go back to the Army. Otherwise those planes are going to sit in the boneyard for who knows how long; same as the C-27A's. The MC-12's will pick up right the RC-26 mission with no problem, and it is a much more capable aircraft electronics wise. Over the past couple of years I've been directly and indirectly involved with one of the programs and know some about the other. As long as I've got an airplane to work on that will be all right with me.

The thing with the C-27J is that Congress has already told the Army that they can not have them and with all the cuts the Army is about to take, they couldn't afford them even if Congress changed thier minds.

More details copied from an online article:

Air Force Plan Would Cut 10,000 Airmen

Nearly 10,000 of the Air Force's active National Guard and Reserve airmen would be cut next year if plans detailed Friday by the Air Force go into effect. Cuts will reportedly target the National Guard for more than half of the total personnel, aircraft and other equipment to be trimmed. Specific numbers trim 5,100 guardsmen, 3,900 active-duty members and 899 reservists. The Air Force Times has reported that the Air Force does not intend "to employ involuntary cuts in the active force to reach that goal." Changes will come to forces in all 50 states and cuts may not stop there. The plan brought immediate push-back.

A "strategic guidance" document obtained by the Air Force Times "provides a five-year plan for cutting and reallocating aircraft through fiscal 2017." Senator Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., issued a statement that said the reductions as they've been laid out "would save relatively little" and "once done, cannot be undone." The changes have to survive passage through Congress as part of the Defense Department budget. Already on Friday, at least one Reserve unit had found support through a website called "Save the Flying Razorbacks," which asks supporters to petition the Defense Secretary on the Wing's behalf. Precise descriptions of how the Guard and Reserves ranks will be thinned have not been publicly aired. Methods that include early retirement and "reduction-in-force boards" have been used in the past.

Might have to check out that site for the 188th FW. The reduction in force boards have already started in the Army, first group going are those service members with a criminal record.
