Re: Canadian F-5A +B
I tried that but the canopy and nose gear outline is just too faint to follow .I was doing OK until that point . Lesson #1 in layering = use different layers so ya an pick out the errors later as ya go alongf4nutter wrote:i lost minebut you could start again using DXTBmp.
IS there a way to redefine the outlines of the different pieces ?
Re: Canadian F-5A +B
You'll hate me for this.
When I rework a texture to make a paintkit for my own use I add a layer called reference as the top layer. As I paint whatever colours I want to paint it I use that layer with high vis graduation marks to show me where the edges are. I use FSRepaint so every time I check my painting I also note where the edge is and amend it. By the time I get to lining up camo between the differing bits I am well on the way to seeing where the extremities of each piece are. Or you could spend a while sorting it out in one go and then paint but I found that too boring.
I tried not to stare at the goat but succumbed, and then fell over again.

I'm trying to do same in Photoshop by taking Ray's Turkey Stars which are a basically a white A/C on a white background to start layer 1 .The white templates on white are hard to pick out and in the case of one of the nose gear doors , rear fuselage just before the exhaust and the canopy are impossible to see. I painted in different coloured strips to pick out where they were hiding and coloured in those areas That's where the trouble started and my plan fell apart as the whole A/C turned that colour .
Don't look at Billie too much .He's absolutely evil !
Re: Canadian F-5A +B
Anyone got the F-5E and F paintkits ?
Re: Canadian F-5A +B
In the absence of a paintkit ,is there any way to draw in panel lines and keep them all in one layer ?
Re: Canadian F-5A +B
i use PSP10, you can make different layers and save your paint as psp, which will save it in layers.

I'm using Photoshop and it basically does the same as Paint Shop . My question was addressing how to merge 2 or more layers into one . By dancing between Photoshop and Gimp the secrets to repainting are SLOWLY revealed . Takes awhile to do, BWTF it is fun to do and learning as I go along. So far I've figured out 3 ways of drawing in panel lines !
I'd do a tutorial but it would certainly be "The Idiot's Guide to Repainting "

Re: Canadian F-5A +B
ah, you can put as many layers as you want and then go to Layers, Merge,Flatten, this will make all your panel lines into a single layer, then you can add them to your chosen texture.
Re: Canadian F-5A +B
Have a look at the tutorials on Simmers Paint Shop. You may find them useful and they cover both PSP and Photoshop.

While on the subject of panels ,where you, Graham and Mark excel is in depicting panel lines . What I like to see on A/C in FS is something that replicates what the human eye should see . Modern military A/C are very chameleon in that on a freshly painted airframe in brite sunlight @ 50 ft you are not going to see much in the way of panel lines or hatch outlines but what will stand out are the shadows . On a well used A/C the reverse will come into play ,in that, well worn removable panels and hatches will stand out more .

Billie's tired , PO'd and has been put out to pasture and will spend most of his time "worrying " the neighbour's female Pitbull. With his hooved feet he kept pressing the Shift and the Ctrl key at the same time which did produce some interesting results .Chrisb wrote:I must admit I had to look up RTFM but could work out IHTFM quite easily then.
