This is SPARTA! Spartan

Post by Victory103 »

Just a quick FSX test on the new Seaboard V2 package. Great to see the C-27J in the sim, regardless of where it may not be real world. Andrews scenery is another classic, as a non-AI resident checks out the new scenery. (IRIS C-27J, RAZBAM EA-6B)

We stopped the Hot Shots because nobody was posting screenshots any more.

Perhaps it's worth doing quarterly rather than monthly. Get more to choose from that way.

We'd like to do them as they are posted up. IOW, if a really great shot gets posted, it might be added to the hot shots that are already posted.

Picking them on a timeline is a pain in the butt.

Yep!

For the FSX guys reading this, can you try an experiment for me. As I understand it, in FSX, the alpha channel is flipped, what is all black in an FS9 alpha channel is all white in an FSX alpha channel.

These trees that we use in the scenery, make use of a texture that uses FS9 transparency which uses an FS9 style alpha channel.

I've always wanted to try flipping the alpha channel on the FS9 texture and then try it in FSX to see what happens.

Well here's your chance to test my theory.

This is the tree texture file for Andrews. It is named "FS9_trees.bmp" and is located in the "MAIW Andrews AFB (KADW)/Texture" folder.

If you run FSX, try replacing the fs9 texture with this one and let me know what happens as I have flipped the alpha channel and saved it as a DXT5 which is also what I've read FSX files need to be saved as.

A screenshot of what you see would also help.

Lovely shots Mike, another well-timed package to get me updating things after the last little retro-burst we've been going through

On a side note, I am expecting to get my own shots in real-life at the Andrews Open House next year, which I'm getting a little excited about; the first (and very probably only) chance to visit the States, and what a way to do it :D

Mike G. Unfortunately this did not do the trick with the trees for FSX. I should have posted a photo. Ended up with white trees in a black background.
