Anyone here have any info about Finland?
Currently working on Rovaniemi (EFRO) and I'm totally bamboozled regarding an area adjacent to the field.
Have attached a screenie with the area highlighted. Does anyone have a clue as to what it is?
Thanks

That's an odd one. If you switch to birdseye view you get a good summer view of it and can zoom in tight. Looks to be paved. There's an abandoned AN-2 at the bottom of it.

Hi Jim,
I have the charts from that site - but cannot see anything mentioned about the strange area.

Stew, I think it's part of Rovaniemi, Ice racing and skid pan track.

You could be right there Mark - but at 835 feet across that's a big skid pan.

Showing my age now but it looks like a compass swing pad for large jets, i.e. B707 etc. Mind you I am going back to the days of pre-digital nav equipment. My guess is that those sorts of things are needed any more.
I would leave it markings free and just have it as a feature unless you get some more info.
*thought*
Have you tried looking at the FISD scenery of it to see if that gives you any clues?

I did have that thought Steve, but as you can see - they just left it out.

Mr Pearson declines to answer the previous post because the response could provide self-incriminating evidence of an illegal act punishable by fines, penalties or forfeiture.

If you have a look at some of the current Finland tourist sites the structure next to the airport isn't on the maps, sattelite or otherwise. Is that an old one?

Hi Chris,
It's from Flashearth mate, so I "assumed" it was pretty up to date. Unfortunately Google Earth and Nokia Maps have the base area pixelated so I have no way of comparing.
