Creating Multiple Bases With similar design

Post by bigtam121 »

Apologies if this has been asked before but i was planning to make sceneries for the 4 Cold War nato dispersal bases in France. There are 4 of them and of very similar design. They are basically shells with all the runways and hardstandings and minimal hangars and were designed in the cold war for the USAF to move in/operate at short notice if required from them. As they are all of similar design was wondering if rather than making up 4 new afcads that i could afcad or ADE to make one then save it alter the details ie properties etc and have them all show up in my version of fs2004. as i said sorry if someone has asked this already. finally to all my fellow simmers hope you and your families have a very merry christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2013. If I understand you correctly then the answer is yes.
You can make one base afcad and then make copies and then alter the properties for new new names, positions etc.

The one thing that you won't be able to have is any scenery at the bases. If you add a hangar at one base, using ADE for example, I understand that it is placed as a lat/long position of its own and not as an offset of the base position.

Somebody with more knowledge of ADE than myself may be able to confirm this for sure.

ADE with the ProKey has a move airport feature. This allows an airport to be moved over large distances accurately. This can include buildings and other scenery. At least one group I know are using this to create a base scenery at a nominal location. They then change the reference details of the airport and use the move feature to get it to a new location. Bear in mind that some airport features are altitude specific and a new altitude may be needed along with terrain elements to flatten and clear the new location. It is also important not to use an existing Ident for the base airport or any clones.

However ADE can indeed do what is being asked
