AI engine smoke fire trails?

Post by Felixthreeone »

Sorry I didn't have time to post a pic, but I noticed the other evening that any of the ai equipped with smoky engines have an anomaly. It seems that at dusk they turn into giant fireballs in the sky, as they trail the smoke. Is this an issue with the effect itself? Can it be remedied in FSX? I seem to remember someone seeing it in FS9 at one point, but that was quite a long time ago...anyone else seen it or know how to fix it?

A well know issue. I don't think all the smoke effects suffer from it. So far I have only seen it on C-130's.

Someone posted a possible solution on the AIG forums: open the effect file with an editor and under [Particle.2] change "Face=1,1,1" to "Face=0,0,1". I haven't tested it yet though. Let us know if it works.

It is a little bug in the effect file.

It is already found in fs9 and was in fx_nicksmokeC130.fx

Changing face= 1,1,1 to face=0,0,1 solves the problem (particle.2)

Perhaps same problem can be found in other (smoke) effects?

Can someone tell me EXACTLY which file to open and make this change. I'm having this problem too.

Thanks,
