Hmm, don't know the specifics, but out here in the wild west (Texas), we have areas we can get to down <200' AGL and actually land. I'm sure some guys are going to not be PIC's after this.

Back in the early 2000s we had an exercise in New Orleans where the 8th MEU came down and was conducting urban ops in and around greater New Orleans. They actually landed a few H46s on city streets for insertions and CASEVACs. It was quite a sight to behold.

Port Angeles is deep in the heart of ultra liberal panty waists (my uncle included) with absolutely no exposure to the military. If they could keep the CG out of there, I'm sure they would. When I lived outside of the Ft Hood area, a bit to the west, the military had agreements with land owners to tolerate occasional close in ops by choppers, and nobody was really disturbed by these ops. (Sound of Freedom and all). Can't get behind civ's who don't like being exposed to a little noise generated by America's Best from time to time!
