Question for USAF Veterans or Knowledgeable Guys

Post by dk1213 »

Guys, I am getting rid of FSX and switching to Fs9 because it works 100x better than FSX on my system. I have a 3 part question I am hoping someone can answer. My first question is about FIS units, concerning the 318th FIS and the 5th FIS from Mcchord and Minot AFB, which I understand are disbanded, am I correct? Have any other uniits taken their place or are these bases now operating just C-17's and B-52's? I am trying to keep my FS9 setup as close to reality for 2013 as I can get it, so should I leave out these units?

My second question is in FS9, there is no "View traffic" option. What do you guys suggest I can use to substitute for spotting AI aircraft while in the sim? I really like FS9, it looks alot better in most respects on my system, what can I do to see all the cool traffic I have put in?

Third, I am having issues with some of my traffic files, can I use AIFP to down convert FSX traffic or do I need to find all new FS9 native files?

There is no replacement for the FIS squadrons.

On the means to view aircraft there are two options and you can have both installed. Firstly install TrafficToolbox which you can find in the FS2004 TRAFFICTOOLBOX_SDK. This will follow AI aircraft up to 100nm from your position. Secondly there is an addon aircraft Traffic View Board (TVB) which can can follow your aircraft indefinitely.

You can use AIFP to convert back to FS9. It is at times like this that you realise that keeping the original source txt files and recompiling is a useful thing. This is why we always supply them with our packages.

Hope this helps.
Steve

Thanks Steve, however I can't find the FS2004 SDK files on the disc. Where are they located?

Search for "fs9_sdk_tool_pack.zip" at Avsim.

You can also find all the SDKs on the FS Developer site (along with so many other goodies).

Just remember that you need to copy the TrafficToolbox.dll file into the FS9\Modules folder after installing the SDK.
