Wow Mark they look awesome buddy, do you have the new ground shadows turned off for trees and buildings? Would be good to see what impact they give on your FPS, as they looked great in the V2 trailers.
There is a start screen hidden away in V2, let me read more into it.

Mark below is where you find the flight start screen for p3D V2, there is a known bug at present where the first time you launch it, you need to make sure your in window mode first or you get black screened. Once your flight has started you can then go to full screen. Here is the important bit when you have finished you P3D session go back to window mode before exit, this will then make your sim start in window mode the next time you launch. LM are working on a fix for this, as with the HDR issue also.
Go into your settings for realism, where you change your aircraft, atc, stuff like that, you will see bottom right you will see mission startup or something like that.
Just click and everytime it starts, it looks like fsx...
Hope this helps.

Looks good.
I have a old graphic card (GeForce GTX 275) and unfortunately it can not handle Prepar3d.

Mine - you can see them in the A-10 and F-117 threads - are with a locked 30 fps. And a constant 30 is what I get. I never tried how much I would get unlocked.

Yeah, you would need a DirectX 11 compatible card with 1gb memory minimum.

Dx11 Preview in FSX gives a far better frame rate than the default Dx10 if you have a compatible card. You obviously need to compare apples with apples with Prepar3d. Are the results achieved compared to FSX Dx10 or FSX Dx11? You also need to measure in Windowed mode, at least for FSX.

You lost me on all accounts, John.

Do you mean DX10 preview vs. default DX9? Then I agree, otherwise I have obviously missed something important.
I am still way too green with P3D - is it so that if you have a DX11 compatible card P3D would work in DX11 mode automatically? Or do I have to enable this?
And why would I have to measure in windowed mode?
Must be a combined blond and senior moment I guess

Hey Martin, V2 only runs in DirectX 11.

That's what I thought. Was John talking about P3D 1.x then?

Just got his 9, 10 and 11's mixed up I think...lol
FS9 DirectX 9
FSX DirectX 9 with optional DirectX 10 preview.
P3D V1.x as FSX
P3D V2 DirectX 11

Now I feel safe again....

Just the windowed mode questions remains, and I am used to end up with a question....

I am getting around 25-40 fps in most areas. I currently have my FPS set to unlimited which I usually never did with FS9 or FSX.
Mark, I will try turning the ground shadows on, I had them off in the shots above.

I also have not put P3D on my SSD. I was trying it out on another drive as FSX currently takes up most of my 160 GB SSD. If i decide to switch, I should get better performance from that as well as it was quite noticeable for FSX.

Thanks Mark!

Sorry for the confusion. I did indeed mean Dx9 and Dx10 Preview in FSX.
The question remains though, is the comparison of Prepar3d performance with Dx11 against FSX Dx10 or Dx9? Also for the test area, are there the same add-on sceneries in the catchment area, the same amount of AI traffic in the area, is the viewpoint the same in each sim and of course are the settings of the sim comparable in each?

Mark,
I didn't see any Academic License watermark on your screenshots. Did you edit it out or are using a different version of Prepar3D v2?
I only ask as I am curious about the Prepar3D Professional Plus license because of the following quote from their website:
What are the differences between Prepar3D Professional and Prepar3D Professional Plus?
The major difference is the Prepar3D Professional Plus license as described above has additional features specific for military training. Look for additional information as we update the product overview pages this week.
