can somebody tell me why the pave hawks at Lakenheath don't call atc before take-off etc.

I'm using the afcad from JY's package which is AFX_ACG3.bgl

They're probably on a different comms channel to the rest of the airfield. The ACG3 afcad is meant as a supplement for the standard EGUL one.
EDIT-just checked in the sim, and I was right.
For me the ACG3 afcad comm channel is 122.5, which is different from all of the channels used by EGUL. To be able to hear the helicopters whilst plugged into the EGUL comm channels you will have to use a program like ADE to change the ACG3 channel to the same frequency.
