Square Props

Post by col1948 »

I'm rebuilding my AI aircraft after having to re-install my FS9. I downloaded a WoAI ATR 72-200, Danube Wings airline paint, on viewing it has square propellers, what I mean is they are squares spinning.
I looked in the textures but the props are not on a separate section they are included in one texture block so to speak or I would have just swapped them for some others.
The aircraft is an OSP model, I did a search but drew a blank, it is no big deal I can live without it but just wondered if there was a quick fix before I delete it?

Hi Col1948,

Did you try to solve the problem by copying the texture prop texture into the MAIN texture folder of fs9 ? They don`t have to be installed in that folder, but sometimes it helps ( i.e. to avoid texture conflicts... sometimes observed with scenery textures which are used in more than one scenery ). Maybe it helps.

Best regards from Germany

If you are using the Woai package then the model being used is the OSP one. A very good model. It uses a separate prop texture.
A simple search 'danube blue' on avsim reveled that there is a separate paint just for the -200 released by UTT. I checked it and it has a separate prop texture.

You could either replace the whole texture with that one or simple copy the prop texture over, whichever suits you.

Resurrected this thread because it's happened again Grrr!
I repainted the SBAI AN-12 (FS9 version), the paint shows up in the sim no problem but I was annoyed again to see square propellers once they started to spin.
I did a search to see if there was anything relating to it, I found plenty of textures for it but nothing about square props, I could just delete it but I did a few hours on the texture and it bugged me.

The actual texture is just one file and the propeller is in the that file (SKJ_AN12_T), I tried adding another separate prop file from another aircraft but it made no difference, so ant ideas before I delete please?

Came back to add:
I managed to find a contact for SBAI and sent an email, not sure if they will reply but fingers crossed.

Square props while they are turning is almost always a missing texture file. The square you are seeing is an untextured model portion. The single propeller blade in the main texture file is not the texture for the animated propeller. This is only used when the propeller is stationary or in it's low speed animation. The high speed animation uses a completely different texture.

Checking my SBAI AN-12 folders, there is a prop texture file that needs to be there.

Great that did it!
I downloaded the original model again and it had some textures with it but no prop texture, so I downloaded a few more textures, again no prop texture but one did have it.
So I copied and pasted it in my repaint folder and it worked fine, thank you again for all your help.
