aircraft cfg strangeness

Post by VulcanDriver »

Hi All

I removed the description part of my aircraft config files but when I run FS9 then open up the cfg files the description block is back. Where does FS get this data and can I stop it being written back?

You can't it is one of those fields that is auto-generated if it is not there.

The interesting thing is whether the description that appears matches the field 2 description in the air file. If it does then try deleting the field from the air file.
Needless to say keep a back-up before you start but I am sure that I have seen files w/o field 2.

I used to have a proggie called AirEd which I used to open the air file, remove the description and performance line and save again. Keeped my fltsim sections nice and short. I'm sure you can still find AirEd somewhere if you Google it.

Hi Guys yes that's the conclusion I've come to. I do have AirEd somewhere so will try that. Not all aircraft do this, AIA seem the worst culprit.

Been using AirEd and it's fixed the problems of reoccurring description and performance text. One thing I did notice is the number of FDEs based upon one original one from another designer.

Yep. Basically most fdes can be traced back to about 3-4 original Microsoft AI ones.
