Converted Flyable Helicopter Flips On Landing.

Post by col1948 »

I recently downloaded a Bell-412 Helicopter, it is a flyable but with a bit of jiggery pokery I changed the CFG and raised the contact points so it wasn't on the ground for taxiing.
I flies OK but on landing as soon as it stops it flips over, I changed the toe brake to make it less severe but it still does it.
So could it be the weight and balance, the contact points or...?

Any help appreciated.

Col.

p.s. Forgot to add I converted it for ai use.

It could be a number of things.
Amending the aircraft.cfg will not necessarily fix the problem. What you might need to do is changed the .air file as well.

What is it that you did to the cfg file? Did you amend an existing AI cfg file?

Hi Steve,
Yes sorry mate I should have said, yes I also copied the air file for the aircraft I stole the cfg from.
I kept all the [fltsim] entries, [contact_points] but changing the height, [lights] and at first I kept the [weight_and_balance] but changed that to the weight of the AC I stole the cfg off.

I've made a few flyable in to ai in the past, sometimes got it straight away other times had to fiddle a bit, like i say this will taxi and fly but the landing as it stops it flips over.

I've been trying a few more different cfg's etc but no luck yet.

Hi Giorgio, Thanks for the link, I did a search but that site never came up.
As for the ai 412, I downloaded it, copied some of the CFG and the air file, the heli taxied Ok, it flew but was a bit slow also it kept swaying from side to side in flight, the landing was OK.

So I went back to my original attempt and took a few bits from the ai 412, again it flipped over after landing, so back to the drawing board lol.

Well w/o being able to test it. The first thing I would do is forget trying to hover taxy. Place the contact points on the ground and see what happens.
It may be that your contact points mod maybe the cause.

I am not convinced by this but never try to make multiple changes at the same time. Convert it to an AI fde sitting on the ground first to see if there is any difference.
Plus you must make sure that the CG is between the wheels, presumably you have placed wheels at the front and back of both skids.

Hi Steve, I cracked it, long story short, I had another similar looking heli already converted in a backed up folder, it was slightly heavier but I thought I would give it a go.
Any way it worked fine, taxi, fly and landing, this may sound funny but I spot an aircraft, like it so have to give it a go, it could be anything from a heli, single prop, twin prop and or jet, anything, I make some flight plans and fly it for a while then move on.
Sometimes I get fed up with it and take it out of the sim but usually I save to a pen drive.

I had this thing about sea planes once, got loads of them flying, made water afcads as well, now I never bother with them but I still have them saved, one in particular was a German thing, weird looking and it took me a few days to get it right, I did it in the end lol.

Well it may not be the most scientific method, but hey - if it works....
