UK Apaches centralise at Wattisham

Post by CelticWarrior »

Here's
a BBC News article covering the move of the UK's AH assets to Suffolk.
"We attack tomorrow under cover of daylight! It's the last thing they'll be expecting ... a daylight charge across the minefield .."

Hi,

Here's a couple from the fence on monday evening. The crew of the AH on the fenceline are from one of the former Dishforth sqns that have recently transferred down here - they're with 4 Regiment now. Despite what the local media said, none of those helo's actually transferred down on the day of the parade - they'd been coming down in one's and two's for the last couple of months. Also, the Middle Wallop Apache's are so far unaffected, and there's no indication they're coming to Wattisham anyway - although from a support point-of-view you can see the obvious advantages to a transfer. Why OC 4 Reg came out with such duff info, which even just a local civvie knows is a load of cobblers, I have no idea. They ain't quieter, there certainly isn't less numbers here but there's still a sqn at Wallop!!

I'll buy the comment on increased security though - it's getting rather difficult nowadays to spend anytime watching without upsetting the MPs.

Hope they're of interest.
