I've been working slowly on a new project for a while now, a KAI T-50. By my modest FS9 standards, most things are going well, but I have one persistent problem for which I have run out of ideas.
The gear animation mostly works, with the exception of the main gear wheels. Although they behave properly in Gmax and in Martin's viewer, they do not fully rotate into their "down" position in the sim. I have experimented with gear compression for the first time, and although I think I've paid attention to the ratios, something isn't right.
The nose gear is fine, no issues, but the main gear wheels are not. Admittedly, they do have a slightly complex transition between KF0 and KF100 before the progression to full compression at KF200, so I wondered if that was at fault somehow. I think I've named everything correctly, but I'm missing something.
So, as I know that MAIW is very much alive, I thought I'd ask for your collective thoughts.

Gmax gear animation question
Re: Gmax gear animation question
Well I think that the best person that could be able to help would be JY. He has the most experience in this area.

Re: Gmax gear animation question
Jon, It might be that your key frame animation is not right. I normally use KF0-130, using 2 parts.
c_gear is the main gear leg and is animated KF0-100 to rotate into the well.
c_gear_01 is the Oleo and is linked to c_gear. KF:100 has the Oleo fully extended by the gear compression value. KF:130 lifts the wheel up to ground level.
Same for the main gear.
If that doesn't fix it, if you can you get your Gmax file to me, I'll take a look for you.

Re: Gmax gear animation question
Thanks John,
I admit I was unsure if I'd sufficiently defined the gear positions, so I followed your convention and set the ground contact position at KF130. I'll also admit that one more check showed that I'd made an error with part naming. In short, the wheels are correctly aligned now.
Test flying at EPMM, I'm mostly happy with how things are coming along. There's just a slight tendency for the wheels to briefly sink into the runway a little on take off rotation and on touch down. I expect I haven't quite got the compression figures right yet in the cfg file. It's mostly good, though, I think.

Re: Gmax gear animation question
Well done. As you say, just tweak the compression values to finish it off.
