Ali al Salem, Kuwait

Post by Ford Friendly »

AS with the modellers, afcadding/scenery design takes work and concentration,so I switched off NAS Lemoore and went to OKAS - or maybe I just have a short attention span and needed the change.

So, I did some work with AFX doing an afcad for Ali al Salem, Kuwait, a location that FSX's stock afcad draws as just two runways (no aprons, taxiways or parking at all).

My afcad so far - 90% complete

Still needs more vehicle routes/roads for definiton, some square concrete stands in that "diamond area", and fencing.

Also been playing with Instant Scenery/SBuilderX for this location. I'd like to figureout how to replace the dirt surface area I had to use to cover the grass AFX/FSX defaulted to for the afcad. I'm trying to figure out how to do landclassing to replace that dirt with desert.

Note: I only have FSX so I have no idea if this will be backwards compatible with FS2004.

Hey FF,
great job!

Just two ideas off my head:
1. AFX will allow you to save the AFCAD in FS2004 version, just stripped off some FSX-only goodies,
2. If you would try Tileproxy then you would forget landclass forever ...

RipPipPip - My connection dislikes the Tileproxy idea and I like autogen trees and buildings. ;P I guess that I need to read up on AFX a little more.. then again, I don't even have FS9 installed anymore to test things.

Gary - That afcad looks great. Did you do any scenery to go with it? Otherwise that base just sits out in the middle of the desert - literally. ;P (Okay, only 10 miles or so, but still, surrounded by a lot of brown nothingness!) ;P I'm sticking some Instant Scenery/RWY12 stuff and the place kinda comes to life.

Very Nice
I did an AFCAD of OKAS last year but this one looks like it will have more details :). I am getting ready to start an Iraq AFCAD project myself. :smt066
