Hi,
After FIDAE 2008 there's been an increasing amount of rumors that the Royal Air Force was offering the Chilean government the purchase of 2 E-3D Sentry. According to some people this information came from off-record conversation with air force personnel. If this is true or not? I have no idea, this is why I'd like to know if someone from the RAF knows something about this deal or if its just peoples fantasies.
I've read really convincing arguments in favor of this:
1) The fact that the RAF's only presence on the fair was a E-3D
2) The IAI Phalcon requires extensive upgrade, the air force is all ready looking for a new airframe to house the phalcon systems
2.1) The time required for this is too long, since the need for at least one more AWACS aircraft for that period of time
3) One aircraft is not enough to offer effective coverage for the hole territory
4) The armed forces are currently in a mayor upgrade process (A310 MRTT, F-16, helicopters for army and air force, CN-295 ASW for the navy)
So... what do you know there overseas?
