I'm really amazed that this is freeware

Droppable fuel tanks
Photoreal textures inside and out
Removable stick in Virtual Cockpit
Optional full IFR capable instrumentation
Fully functional 2D panel and Virtual Cockpit
Extensive check list and aircraft status windows
Fully animated and authentic looking pilot figure
Dynamic engine damage and flame-out simulation
Authentic start-up procedure including power-cart
Most switches and handles work in 2D panel and VC
Working guns with muzzle flash and tracer bullets effects
Extended soundsuite including brake and tire-scrub sounds
Full working and authentic looking radio stack in 2D panel and VC
Aircraft roll rate and agility depending on speed and altitude of the aircraft
Automatic wing slat operation depending on speed and attitude of the aircraft
Working ( or not working, depending on the skill of the pilot ) hydraulics system
Special FX suite including, heat shimmer fx, 3 stage exhaust flame fx, and typical J-47 smoke trail
Parked mode with wheel chocks, fluttering RBF flags, in- and outlet covers, pilot flightgear on wing

EDIT: WOW AGAIN!! This thing is freakin' awesome!! Gotta be one of the best freeware planes ever released!

I feel bad for anyone that paid for the AlphaSim verison. No way it even comes close to this one.

If anyone converts the canopy to FSX-compliant, please let me know.

My Dad flew one of these in Korea and he sat down and tried it from the Locked Spot view. He said the responsiveness - or lack thereof - of the throttle on takeoff roll was pretty much right on and he liked the in-air manueverability. Of course, his memory is a bit dated as is he, but.... he smiled while he flew this, fwiw.

Ford I read somewhere else that you have to go into the canopy texture file and flip the alpha channel.

Just had to post these shots of this beauty. I used the recorder.

On the first shot I did use the auto adjust color feature to give it a liitle more depth.

Great shots Paul. I really like watching the slats retract by themselves on that thing. Hard to believe that the Germans thought of that concept and were using on the Me-109 in the War.

Actually it was the British company Handley Page who invented the slats but Messerschmitt that implemented it on the 108 and then the 109

Thanks Mike, She is one awesome model to fly. Hard to believe it freeware. Has anyone figured out how to get the guns to work. I couldn't find it in the read me file. I downloaded the manual from their web site, but the file was corrupt.

On the upper left of the main panel there is a button, "master arms" or something like that. Push that and you'll hear a constant buzzer and then just pull the trigger on your joystick (or the "." or whatever else you use for brakes) and you'll hear the "bang bang bang" and see the muzzle flash/smoke

Thanks John, didn't know that aspect of it, learn something new every day.

I feel bad for anyone that dropped the coin on the AlphaSim version. It's exterior model has all the FSX bells and whistles but the rest of their model doesn't even begin to compare to this one.

These guys have set the bar so high with this, even the payware companies are probably P.O.'d at them for making it freeware.

When I was about 10 yo I had a cutaway drawing of the Me-109 and the Spitfire on my bedroom wall (I later discovered better things to pin on my wall when I was in my early teens!) and I was intrigued why a British company was 'supplying' the Germans with slats. Of course they were named after the company who patented them, not supplied them!
