black, opaque glass

Post by andqui »

I've started downloading and converting the MAIW stuff to FSX- and i'm very impressed. Those aircraft models are extremely detailed, but my frame rates don't drop at all.

The only thing i'm having trouble with is the cockpit glass. It's black and opaque. In the past, I've taken the glass file and given it a black alpha channel, and that's fixed it. But when I look at the texture model for the Hungarian Gripens, the canopy texture is in the same file as the rest of the plane. How do I go about giving only the glass the new alpha channel?

thanks

Hey

what version fsx do you use? I've FSX SP2, and the Gripen looks very well.

The cockpit glass on the Gripens gets its texture from a seperate file that 'should' be in the games main texture folder (at least in FS2004 it is).
Look for a file called- maiw_glass_clear (something like that).

I haven't got FSDS on this laptop to be able to check the exact name.

The exact name is MAIW_canopy_clear.bmp and has an alpha channel.
I have it (in FSX SP2) in the main texture folder.

Thats the one, thanks.

Explanation - The 'canopy' area on the main texture is only used on the farthest distance LOD's. By that time you can't tell if it is glass or not.

For the LOD's were you can tell its glass it uses MAIW_canopy_clear.bmp in the games main texture folder.

Good news - I believe we all use that one now for our new models canopy texture. So once you have fixed it for the Gripen, it will fix the ones after it also.

There will eventually be an MAIW_canopy_smoked.bmp one as well for use with our smoked canopy models, and maybe even an MAIW_canopy_gold.bmp also.

sorry for the delay, thanks for the help.

things got a bit jumbled, so i started over and am going through each of the packages from the first to the last, so I can make sure I get everything.

just so i don't need to make another thread, can i ask this here?

the beta version of editvoicepack for FSX does not support adding in speech files. Is there any way I can enable the call signs in fsx? I know it's not officially supported, but are there any fsx users who know how to do this? thanks

Yes, it's pretty easy, but a little convoluted. You must have FS9 installed and EVP. You then create the EVP file in FS9, locate it in the FS9 file structure and move to the appropriate place in FSX. I'm not on my home computer, so I can't give you the exact locations, but the Sound folder would be a pretty good place to start :)

You cannot make it think you have FS9 because you don't have the original FS9 voicepack for EVP to work on!
Which way is up?

I really want these voicepacks, though. Any way of obtaining just the fs9 voicepack? :)
