Paint kits for MAIW

Post by explorer »

Hello
I use allot of MAIW packages. Thanks for all the great packages. :)
I was wondering, without sounding like an ingrate, why paint kits are not issued for allot of your aircraft.?
I have wondered this for a couple of years.
Also, is there any plans to model the RC-135 Cobra Ball or the Rivet Joint aircraft based with the fighting 55th out of Offut AFB.
If you ever need repainters, let me know.
Thank you guys

Hi Roger, firstly I should say that we never, well hardly ever, comment on what might be done in the future. This not because we like to be annoying but because there is a lot of work between choosing a subject and it being released and things happen. So this way we avoid disappointment on expected releases.

Now the way we look at it, everything that has yet to be covered is fair game for us. We even look to upgrade stuff that we have done.

On the paintkits, we can only release paintkits for models that we have created from within, and only then if the modeler provides one. Is there one that you have in mind in particular?

Paintkits actually take a good bit of work to produce. Not as much work to make the models themselves but it's just one more step that not all modelers are willing to undertake once they've finished their model.

All we can do is ask them for one and hope they are kind enough to share one with us.

Also don't forget that many times a modeler will pair with another individual to create the textures. Then it becomes a multiple person project and it's often up to the texture artists to make the paint kits available.

Nice replys to my questions, I appreciate them.
I do feel asking about upcoming models is not the right thing to do,
on the other hand, I have always wondered about the RC-135's (Combat Sent, Rivet Joint, Cobra ball, etc) why they would not be a great addition to flight simulator.
People in h#ll want ice water too, right.?
Paint kits, yes, I don't like asking about those either.
This is the first post that I have ever ask about them.
I was wanting a blank of the Lockheed PC3 Orion WX (tail number N42RF) to be truthful.
I do allot of NASA aircraft repaints, and the reason I don't upload them presently is I have been given flack from the librarians over at a certain download site for what I feel to be nefarious reasons.
I have been repainting since 2003.
Still brushing up on my skills as always.
The packages are so great from MAIW, and they have been such an awesome addition to FS, all I can really do is say a hearty "thank you guys".
If this was payware, I would buy it. :) Special thanks go out to Steve and Mike G. for your replies.
Thanks for your hard work

Roger, on the specific example that asked about the WP-3D, I assume that you have the Florida Orions pack with that example included. As you therefore are aware Graham King painted the example, and I am not aware of a paintkit being available to us for that one.
Now as I read it you actually want the specific paintkit used to create that one example, that is something that I can't recall Graham ever making available to us.
As we are very careful about guarding an individuals personal property rights we could not in all conscience make such a request available, if we had it. As a creator yourself I am sure that you can respect this. I feel that this is a request that you must make to Graham himself.

On a personal note about the RC-135s, the problem that we currently have is that there is no AI version that meets the standards required by us. So a modeler would have to make one to this standard. The trouble is AI modeling is a specific art and practiced by few. The numbers available of the actual aircraft tend to make it a choice further down the list than others, for modelers. You need for one to either have a specific passion to do it, or a event trigger the impetus.

Like all things it is not impossible that one appears, maybe if the rumoured RAF purchase comes about it will cause such a trigger but please bear in mind that as we still haven't got an AI quality F/A-18 yet it may take a while.
