Paul,
Perhaps I'm out of line here, but I'm getting more and more concerned about the Real Life forum at the MAIW site and in particular the bias it shows toward pro-US military hardware, techniques, and technology.
The recent Iran F-14 thread is probably not the best example, but there is only one country that goes round bombing others, capturing civilians locking them at a particular Cuban base without trial for years on end, won't sign a world wide ban on land mines and cluster bombs, manages to create more wars than they solve so they can be the seller of military hardware in return for more money in the hundreds of billions, has killed more civilians 100-fold in Iraq than the awful terrorists could have hoped to kill on 9/11, and has more nuclear weapons in their arsenal than all other nations put together. These are just some of the reasons why the US military is despised around the world today. That is not to mention the countless number of "its like the cold war all over again" threads that appear on this forum, when I have not seen a single thread about Russia, N Korea, or Iran mirroring the same view.
Normally I would not participate in discussions like these (we're all here because of FS and we all love MAIW

) but your post about how the US Navy let go of a "terrorist" and paid him $50 for his troubles, in my opinion has crossed the line into the blatantly ill-informed that I had to say something.
On the surface so far I know my post may not be popular here, with a lot of military minded simmers, some even serving. The point of my post is not to hate or loathe those that do, but encourage a broader and more informative view of the world.
That said, Paul, do you really consider a guy who was picked up defending his own patch (mind you his forefathers were defending the same patch of land a 1000 yrs before him), forcefully taken onto a US military warship where they are not wanted or invited, then automatically constitutes him as a terrorist according to you?
If you don’t mind me adding a bit of sarcasm, I think some just more prone to absorb 8 yrs the “Bush rhetoric” than others
