FS9 CTD.
I've been having intermitten problems with FS9 crashing. So I went out and bought another copy since the copy I was using was given to me by MS while I was beta testing FS9.
I thought I had this problem solved after this new install but I am once again haunted by it.
This time though, I did see an error message dealing with Runtime Libraries.
I have VB6 installed which was all I thought FS9 required.
Any tips and/or suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks.

When I started messing around with effects, I was getting crashes which I eventually narrowed down to flyable effects that were being used on AI aircraft and were not compatible.
You would get Runtime Error R6025 - pure virtual function call, this would show up in a requestor as well as in your event viewer, and cause a crash.
The effects I was working on were burner effects, if they are not terminated in a certain way it crashed.
Bottom line you can't just take a non-AI effect and add it to an AI aircraft.
Now how can you narrow it down? Well that can be hard, as the crash comes not when the effect is used but rather when it spawns up to 100 miles away from your aircraft.
I only started down this route because it would happen every time that I loaded at a certain base at a certain time. In my case it was Lakenheath, and the cause was my early attempt at a Jaguar burner going into Coltishall.
I shall try and help narrow down the cause if I can, but I would start by checking your event viewer for the crash info.

Steve,
Using event viewer this is what I found. This message is the same for the last 3 CTD's that I've had.
Hopefully you can translate this for me..LOL.
The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Flight Simulator 9.0 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: fs9.exe, 9.1.0.40901, facilities.dll, 9.0.0.30612, 0000f63b.

Well it looks like you may be in for a dose of good news, Kev.
I did a search a found a couple of entries on that exact failure code which said that it was caused by a corrupt fsuipc lib.
Try de-installing it, then see if the crash happens, and then re-instaling it to see if that fixes it.

I checked my version of FSUIPC only to find it was rather old. Don't know why as I've got a later version. So I installed it and am going back into FS9.
Although I was flying in mexico earlier. downwind leg and guess what..CTD.
I checked the viewer but the error was not the same.
Still, I'll give this later version of FSUIPC a go and let you know what happens.
If you see a big mushroom cloud eminating from West-Central Illinois, don't worry, it's just me.

Steve,
I've had it happen with 2 different aircraft so far.
Funny thing is it only has happened when on final to land...
I got an error dealing with the 'facilities.dll' file. It's an FS9 file is the only info I could find on it so far.
Gonna try rebuilding the FS9 cfg file and see what happens.
Will keep trying.
