PAI C-17

Post by CelticWarrior »

Remembering way back when RipPipPip gave us his C-17 I thought he talked about a model variation for STOL ops to simulate tactical landings.

Does anyone remember if this was released, or was it a special FDE? Or maybe I'm just losing more marbles and it's just a figment of my stunted memory

CW,
I don't recall anything along these lines, however I don't remember everything :) .
What it seems to be alluding to is a new fde to simulate this type of operation. I seem to recall that Mike Mac wanted to get around to a C-17 fde revamp when he got time but I think its fair to say that Mike hasn't had much free time, he is always busy doing new fdes rather than revamping old ones, so I guess its still a wish rather than an actuality.

Steve, the announcement was back in the pre-MAIW days, as I recall. But the old grey matter may be deceiving me.

I appreciate Mike's a busy man and I'm not asking anyone to do anything, so I may have a little tinker with the FDE myself and see if I can get something working. I'd like to make use of the Tac strips I've seen around.

Great idea Celtic, as I noticed when the C-17's out of Charleston AFB head out to the assault strips in the area, the landings are not too bad, but they never have enough room for take off.

I have a few of the AI models from the Abacus Flight Deck 4 flying around and noticed their FDE's are set up for the Abacus supplied carrier, very short landings to simulate the arrestment on deck, sadly they stop short on runways as well.
