The release of the VV/VM Reserve Hornet squadrons has nearley completed the units that comprise NAS JRB New Orleans. With this release I have decided to attempt to complete a more accurate version of NAS JRB New Orleans. I was stationed there for 3 years as a tower controller, and have been wanting to make this base for a long time. Comments and questions are welcome. If you have any updated information on the airfield, that would be appreciated as well, since my knowlege of the base ended in 2005.
Hi,
Looking very nice.
How did you get the simulated deck landing markings on the runway?
Is it a texture that you would share that could be added to other runways that have these markings using ADE?
Regards,
Steve.
I found it in the ABO file in the MAIW scenery libraries, thats where I have found most of the buildings. I have been using ADE9 for the construction. Right now I am trying to figure out how to do a landclass for the area so I can work on the rest of the base.
There's a couple of landclass editing proggys out there if you search around. I can make those kinds of files for you fairly quickly with SBuilder because I have it already set up and ready to go. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks Mike, I have downloaded SBuilder, but haven't really had time to play with it too much, if I hit an impass with that I will definently hit you up for some help.
After a few days of tinkering with SBuilder, I have a basic landclass layout for the base. I have added the "old airfield", as well as rearranged some roads. I still am going to need to do alot of tinkering with the LC to make it the way I want it to look, which will probibly mean altering most of the West Bank and Upper Plaquimines Parish. On the base, I fixed a few taxiways that were out of alignment, added the ASR complex on the south side, started placing some roads around the base, and added the fuel farm and water tower/beacon. Still to do on the field are the engine test pads on Kilo taxiway and the CALA at the appraoch end of 32.
Matt that's looking good. Good to see you got SBuilder working. Once you get it working, it's pretty simple to use, just a lot of trial and error to get the files to look correct.
Don't forget to put that land class file/s into an addon scenery folder that DOES NOT also have a texture folder. There is a known bug in FS9 that will cause a memory leak and eventual crash to desktop if a land class file is located in any addon scenery folder that also has a texture folder, even if that texture folder has nothing in it.
MAIW land class files are placed into the FS9/Scenery/Base/Scenery folder as we've found that to be a safe place to put them.
We didn't either until we released the Luke AFB package and started having a lot of users experiencing the CTD. It takes about 45 minutes to happen so most people don't hang around a location that long to see it. Doing some research we stumbled upon the bug with land class files. Since we've started putting them in that folder, we've not had any more issues.
I was searching through some resources and discovered that VFA-204 now has sunshades as well. Does anyone have any reference pictures of these for placement?
Awsome thanks. And one other question, is the old VP-94 line used for transients or is it left empty? Was your brother in the HMLA or MASD? I was stationed there from 2002 to 2005 as a controller.
Sounds like he worked for the HMLA or as we refered to it MAG-42. Anyways here are a few more update shots from my work this week. I, like many before me, have attempted to alter the course of the mighty Mississippi River, and have met with abject failure. The reminents of the default scenery are showing through on both the river and the roads that I have edited (as seen in screenies 1 and 2). I am not sure at all how to fix this issue, and could use some guidance.

That'll teach you to try to move the mighty Mississippi!
Not sure, I've never attempted to move coastlines or rivers using SBuilder. Always seemed like more trouble than it was worth.
Maybe you need some sort of exclusion to get rid of the old part of the river? Not sure. John Stinstrom has done some work with coastlines using SBuilder, maybe he might be able to help you.
