NASA aircraft

Post by ED_4 »

The search engine here don't seem to work the way it is supposed to. So I'll just post this and ask even if it may have been mentioned already.

I have seen on the front of the website the flashing snap shots of some of the aircraft. And there in one of two of them are a few nice models of some of NASA's aircraft. Where can we find those? I love that experimental F-15 with the canards. I have a functional player version of that same aircraft for FS9. But that model is very low in quality compared to what I've seen in the screens on the front webpage here. Even if those are low polygon designed for AI traffic. I'd gladly swap that model and convert it to a regular flyable version. It looks that great for even flying as a regular player flyable version.

I already know what sort of tinkering that I would need for that to happen in both the *.air and *.cfg files to be able to convert that into one that I can fly.

Anyway thanks ahead for anyone that responds. And for the model maker of that plane, I congratulate you on such a superb model.

The modeler is Kevin Reed, and he along with all of the modelers does an outstanding job.

We don't comment on what may or may not be in the works but we do like to tease you guys a little bit with previews on the front page of different things. If it's on the front page, it's probably a package in the works. But that doesn't always mean the package will get finished. Things happen, creators lose interest and stuff gets put on the back burner.

That's all I'm saying..... :smt082

BTW, welcome to the forums Edwin!

Thanks.

The NF-15B with canards is in the LOD / testing phase.
Unfortunately because of custom XML animations it won't work as a flyable aircraft, it is pure AI only.

It's still a much better looking model than the one that is free and currently available for FS9. Actually that flyable model I'm talking about is possibly even from the old FS8 days. We all know that not everything made for FS8 will work in FS9. So even that AI model only is a better looking candidate. Even if there are no animations. It's a lot better looking than what I have now.

Thanks for the welcome. I've already been a long time user of FS9 and if you've hanged out long enough in Flight-Sim.com's forum, you'd have seen quite a bit of my posts over there. And I've already accumulated a good amount of the traffic/AI packages for FS9 from here and in WOAI also PAI. The number of planes on my traffic AI is actually staggering compared to my flyable aircraft.

In any case whatever may happen to that project, it would be a welcome to see added. It looks like it would make a good addition to the Edward's AFB line of AI planes. As I do know Dryden Flight Research Center flies from over there.

And I salute to all you folks that keep adding more military AI traffic to all of our virtual skies. Thanks MAIW. I also loved that Airshow package that you folks made. I could spend all my time watching those. And another one is that Top Gun package for the Miramar Air Station here in San Diego. Being a local here, I know what that is like in real life back in the days when the F-14s were still flying the circuits here. I miss those guys.

Again, thanks for all your answers. I'll be looking forward to seeing the completion of the project for those wonderful NASA planes.

The NASA package is a bit easier to do since we don't have gobs of aircraft to flight plan for. It will be a nice addition. Interestingly enough, NASA purchased a couple hangars at Palmdale and that's where the 747SP, DC8 and some others will be kept apparently.

I'm surprised that no one has noticed the other subtle little surprise in the image rotator. Also made by Kevin. Look closer! LOL!

Or the fully loaded F-15I

Mind you LOD 1 (max detail) that one weighs in at a ginoferous 6500 polys!!!
That does include -
2 x Sidewinder
2 x Python 4
2 x 2000lb JDams
12 x 500lb JDams
Lantirn Pod
Sniper Pod
1 x Fuel Tank.
Accurate rear fuselage sensor pods (one vert, one horizontal), extra and repositioned aerials, reshaped centre pylon etc etc etc.

Once the base NF-15B is lodded it 'should' be a quick track for the rest.

Possibilities of an F-15SG ;)

I thought it was a model by Nick Black!

Nope.

I couldn't texture one of the NASA Eagles because of stretching/mirroring issues.
Nick gave me his source file for his F-15B, but that would have taken just as long to try and texture remap.
So rather than tear my hair (whats left) out trying, it was easier (sort of) to come up with a whole new model.

I am quite sure the guys who are beta testing the LOD 1 version will chime in with how they think it looks.
