Gray Apache?

Post by MIKE JG »

I've never seen this paint job on an AH-64 before this photo which was taken last September:

I have a "fictional" paint for the AlphaSim AH-64 that is similar to this but is a fictional Navy scheme. Maybe it isn't so far fetched after all.

Oh yeh mate I have a photo of that one too. There are a few photos of it around. I think I once saw the reasoning but it escapes me now.

It's not a proposal to replace the AH-1Ws for the Marines is it?
What is also weird is that I noticed the Pittsburgh Steelers logo on the engine pod.

The Steeler emblem could be explained by the soldier walking nearby. He looks to be wearing a "Keystone" 28th Division of the Pennsylvania ARNG patch. Probably part of the Combat Aviation Bde.

The South Carolina National Guard used to fly a couple gray Apaches too, but gave up the scheme after they updated to the Longbows from the A models

It was a test scheme and they actually deployed with it. Since 90% of missions are flown at night, the standard OD green was better at in the darkness.
