FS Recorder Beta V2

Post by MIKE JG »

All these shots were made possible by using FS Recorder V2 (Beta). I flew each aircraft myself, no AI flight plans or multiplayer.

I started with just the lead T-45 and flew a very stable large pattern from the carrier back to an overhead carrier break to a landing I recorded that flight with the FS Recorder module. I then went back on deck, loaded up this first T-45 flight and played it back as AI traffic. While doing that, I flew the same T-45 (different paint) off of the first one's left wing and recorded that flight. I then repeated this process flying right wing and flying the slot position until I had recorded 4 separate flights and their tracks. Then using the new features in V2 of FS Recorder, I played all four flights back at once, making the lead aircraft my "user" aircraft which allowed me to keep the view centered on it and take these screenshots.

It took about an hour and was actually quite a good challenge and downright fun!!

I will try to make a short video of the sequence so you can see how it turned out.

If you've never messed around with FS Recorder before, you should try it out, the possibilities are endless. Note that it will not naturally record helicopter flights but there is a bit of a workaround if you want to record them.

Here is the website where you can download the latest version for FS9/X

http://www.fs-recorder.net/downloads.php

If any of you watched the videos in that other thread of the Thunderbirds in FSX, this is how he did it. One at a time, all by himself, with no one else. Simply amazing work!

Hey Mike,

I'm away from home right now (reason for this post), but I have D/L the last Beta for FS9.. I was wondering if you can record the VRS Hornet, and fly with it. If I remember correctly, the older version of Recorder had a problem with this aircraft. I was wondering if you have tested it with this set up?

OH YEA, I Love your work here... 8)

Haven't yet tried it with the VRS Bug, but I thought I read over on their forums someone mentioned that with V2 you can now record the VRS Hornet. I know for sure they can do it in FSX so probably the same for FS9.

I've tried this, but it's very tough, 'cause can't fly in perfect formation, even with one wingman.(fool me ) Anyway, what hawk or goshawk did you use Mike?

Mark it's actually not that much work, I only flew about a 9 minute sequence. Longer than that and it would start to be a bit of a bear.

Pixy I am using the Iris Goshawk which was at some point released as freeware. I got it off AVSIM and I doubt that it's still there after the hack. I also found an FDE update for the model which makes it handle much, much better. If you search "T-45" or "Gosshawk" at the major sites you should be able to locate the files.

Great job, I am guessing this might of started after watching all those T-bird videos from Microproductions. I have a basic ACM flight out of Yuma using 2 DSB/Iris F-5's, but have yet to really get into FS Recorder and start making my own flights. Flying form off the AI is not much of a challenge anymore.

Yea I wanted to see how difficult it was to do that sort of thing, as it turns out, it's not that hard, just takes time and practice I would imagine. To actually produce videos like that would take even more time and practice as well as an advanced movie making software suite like Vegas. Windows Movie Maker won't do some of the things like crop out the recorder counter that's in the lower right corner, etc.

I think I can use it to make some interesting AI videos, which while not true to the AI engine, would be a nice way to showcase the actual models themselves.

Here's a quick test video I made last night using the EA-6B. Sorta hard to see as it was filmed at dusk.

One neat thing you can do with the recorder tracks is to play them whenever you want day or night, good weather or bad. Since the module essentially acts like a flight data recorder, it doesn't care about anything else. So you can literally change the time of day or weather conditions during the playback. Pretty cool.

The best part about the video, YouTube did not mute the song! :smt035

Mike
Looks like you got the 2 wire  And a little hard on the landing. Make sure you fill out your gripe sheet.

"Little low, little slow close in, ok 2 wire, good pass......"

Here's the results of trying to sub in AI aircraft for the recorded ones...... Oh well it was worth a shot. The only way this would work is if I had a version of the AI model without all the XML goodies. Essentially the same issue people who want to use the models in multiplayer have.

Sweet, I see you managed to hide the recorder playback box that's in the lower right hand corner. Is that a setting in Recorder or did you have to crop it post recording?

I kind of feel silly asking but where is the Lincon carrier from? I've been trying to find it for some time.

Search flightsim.com for ACA2006.zip (or something close to that).

Hmm.... guess if the boys over at Selfridge start running out of practice bombs, they can start dropping fire extinguishers on Grayling! :smt003
