Just wondering whether he has the permission to include the NBAI RF-4E model in his package:

filename: iriaf_f4_mhkhoyfs.zip @flightsim.com

Oh yeah...thats pretty iffy.

Doesn't even give Nick credit in the read-me.

I'm sure Nick will take care of that post haste.

In the description it says "Includes full animations with speed linked wing sweep." I wonder if he's planning on ripping off Nicks Tomcat for his next project.

Let's not hang the guy yet.
Could be a language barrier. But I'm sure Nick or someone from MAIW will be contacting him soon. :smt006

emailed the author and got no response. So I have asked Flightsim.com to remove the file.

I want to make it clear here that I am more than happy for anyone to upload repaints or packages containing my original models, and I do not even insist that you email me for permission. But please remember that I am the owner of the original model, Mike MacIntrye is usually the owner of the original .AIR and .CFG and sometimes Graham King has been the original owner of the original paintkit. All of these people must be credited when releasing work under your own name.

I will find out if you do not follow these simple rules and your files will be removed. This is not directed at anyone in particular and I'm sorry if it comes across as aggresive but rules must be followed or I will simple not play anymore.

Thanks for you guys who pointed this violation out to me. I am in your debt.

I support Nick 100% on this issue and am happy to have folks use my AI FDE's for Nick's AI models in their AI packages as long as they give both of us credit for our work. However, none of my AI FDE's should be used in any AI package for any AI aircraft other than the specific AI model that I designed it for.

This file has been removed by Flightsim.com.

Never got a reply from the author so tough titty to him. All it would have taken was a little email to ask permission.

Until recently I was totally unaware of the fact that the FDE files are sometimes the work of a different author. My guess is that I am not the only person with an interest in making packages available to everyone who was unaware of this fact.

I don't know how this could be done best, but I think these recent postings by Nick and Mike ought to be easily accessible to the general community. As time passes, this thread will become effectively buried.

May I suggest the creation of a special MAIW forum (entitled, say, "Use of MAIW material by external developers" or some such) where permission/limitation statements can be posted by MAIW designers (in locked threads), so that they remain easily accessible to all. Then, new arrivals to the world of FS (and those for whom English is not their first language) will find it easier to locate and learn the do's and don'ts of designing packages that include the work of MAIW-affiliated designers.

I don't know whether this is actually a practical solution or not, but to me it seems a good idea.

Dan that's not a bad idea.

I will say that all one normally has to do is to actually read the top of the Aircraft.cfg file where Mike M. makes it plainly clear that he is the author/creator of the FDE set for that model.

I think the disconnect comes from the fact that most people don't realize that the model and the other bits are all separate parts usually created by separate people.

    Agreed.

As a novice I would never think to look at the "aircraft.cfg" for info on authorship, as I just assumed everything about the ai aircraft was all created by the same person.
