The Indian air force’s first C-130J tactical transport has emerged from the paint shop at Lockheed Martin’s Marietta plant in Georgia, roughly six months before its scheduled delivery.

“The aircraft now enters flight test in preparation for delivery at the end of the year,” Lockheed says.

India’s first of six stretched-fuselage C-130J-30s currently on order, the lead aircraft is shown carrying the registration KC-3801.

Lockheed earlier this month released an image of New Delhi’s first three C-130Js in final assembly, and said the first example would arrive in India next February.

Indian C-130J completes first engine run
By Craig Hoyle

Lockheed Martin has released images showing India's first C-130J tactical transport performing engine runs for the first time.

Pictured at the company's Marietta production facility in Georgia on 21 September, the aircraft is one of six on order for the nation's air force.

Lockheed says the stretched-fuselage Hercules - previously pictured carrying the registration KC-3801 - will make its flight debut in early October. The aircraft has had an inflight refuelling probe installed above its cockpit since the last images were released.

The C-130J is powered by four Rolls-Royce AE2100D3 turboprop engines
