Simulated Air Combat?

Post by Ghostrida »

Don't know where to post this so I try it here. Is it possible to lock up targets, and is it also possible when flying multiplayer?

means if I lock on my Target (other online players) will they hear a lock sound in their cockpit or is all that not possible or not available yet?
cause that way we could really go into a TOPGUN scenario, where you could fly the CAT against A-4's in simulated Air Combat

Thanx

The closest thing to what you are talking about is available with the VRS SuperHornet for FSX only. The FS9 version will lock up AI targets but that's about it. VRS is working on a "Tac Pack" to add even more weapons functionality to their FSX model but only for FSX as FS9 does not have the coding to allow these things.

yea I'M just talkin bout FSX (sorry but FS9 was way to boring for me), anyway does that mean its only possible for the VRS superbug or also possible to add combat (simulated) or something like that to other planes too? sorry but I'm very new i was flying Lockon FC for years...

Aerosoft's F-16 has the ability to lock up targets. The EM radar has the same ability for offline AI and online VATSIM players. Your biggest issue with FS series ACM is lag on some servers, and of course that inability to shoot weapons, without the special packs coming like the VRS "Tacpack".

If you have the Alphasim F-111 Aardvark (Payware) ,then
add my F-111 Aardvark HUD panel package (freeware) ,
file fxpiggb5.zip , it will work superbly in FSX .
The panel includes possibly the most user friendly Ground mapping and
Air to Air intercept radar currently available . It is possible to lockup any selected or
nominated target AI and have text data relating to that AI appear on both the radar screen
and the HUD , AI data is :altitude , GS , relative bearing , distance , closing speed and
heading . It has about 10 zoom levels from 1 to 300 NM , included in the panel package
is a flight manual with about 3 pages covering radar interception .
While the F-111 is a strike aircraft it remains the fastest aircraft after the SR71 available on
FSX , top speed is 2.52 M .
Can also add Weapons package (freeware) .
I do not know if the radar works in multi player as I have not had any feed back on that subject .

Cheers

For more realistic air combat, just play the Combat Flight Simulator. :D :D

You want to go for a game like Lock-on or IL-2 or something along those lines. MS have never ventured down the combat lines with Flight Simulator series.

yea i know nick, but i see the possibilities after I've seen what FSX can do with for example the Acceleration pack, almost anything is possible, Simulated Combat would be no problem, and if you would hear a sound when you're locked up then this would be nice, if this would work in multiplayer then this would be a very nice military simulation. And still its possible. You could simple simulate smoke when you're shot down simulated, anything might be possible if people would just work a lil bit more together. For example, the MAIW team could work together with the Airfield Construction Group team and so on, Give FSX one big community that is after military features and I'm sure the Outcome will blow all of us away :D

and sorry campeme but Ace combat is just plug n play, noway of a simulation... Lockon FC 2 is cool but the right Landscape and Effects are missing.

We don't even create packages for FSX let alone collaborate with other teams doing so :)

Always prefer the flight models in FS9 and FSX to combat flight simulators. It would be great if (just for fun) there was a mod which put machine guns in the wings of your Cessna so you could go around shooting down unsuspecting AI.

Ghostrida , rest assured you are not alone in wishing for military combat capabilities
in the FSX scenery world ,you , me and many others would love to see it happen .
Quite a few developers are slowly trying to make that a reality , however it will not happen
over night and it is a complex undertaking .
Wonderful advances have been made already , for example:
--Weapons package
--VRS Superbug
--both Aerosoft and Iris F-16
--HUDs , Radars , MFDs
--the wonderful military AIs such as created here at MAIW

Still a long way to go .
We need targeting and attack systems , military style autopilots , and importantly
weapons that can act as short term AIs following a volatile flight plan from our
aircraft to a target either in the air or on the ground , that has just been nominated
by our targeting or attack system and on reaching that point detonate .

Cheers
Karol
