C-17 Below Ground

Post by wbunnell »

Testing drive thru parking at PAEI Eielson AFB Alaska, all aircraft show up parked above ground, all except the C-17.
What causes this?
This is an MAIW Aircraft.
All other aircraft are above ground the way there supposed to be.

Sounds like an AFD issue. Unless you modified the C-17s config file, I'd suspect a problem with the AFD for that base.

I'd look for duplicate AFD.

Reinstalled a different C-17 from inventory, the problem is solved.
I did modify the Aircraft file to get a longer more realistic landing roll, by using a aircraft file from a Kc-135, I achieved that result, I didn’t visually check the aircraft after. My mistake.
Now I have to figure a way to get a realistic landing roll, C-17s do make short field landing rolls, but I don’t believe there less than 1000 feet.
Thanks for the replys.

I'm sure they train short field landings, but I don't think that's standard procedure. Never seen them do one at Kabul in any case and I've controlled lots of C-17's there.

When heavily loaded they even missed the exit mid-runway (+/- 6000 feet) and crawled to the next one. After a while I learned to put an extra mile spacing between a C-17 and the next aircraft on final

If they have plenty of runway to use, they mostly use it. It costs a fortune to pull them up quickly and places the frieght and aircraft under undue strain. Only in training have I ever seen them pull up short at RAAF Amberely, they normally rollout smoothly like any large aircraft.

If you want to use the air file and aircraft.cfg from the C-135 remember you have to transfer the [Lights] and [Contact Points] sections from the original aircraft.cfg to the modified aircraft.cfg.

Why can’t they keep the colours in the bloody paint pots and just leave them grey
