reducing reflections
reducing reflections
Any hints /techniques on reducing reflections ? Got these WIP much too glossy 414 Alphajets flogging around YOD ,but the finish needs to be very much matted down .
Thanking in advance

Re: reducing reflections
If the model was saved as a "reflective" model, there may not be much you can do.

Re: reducing reflections
There is a program called MDLMat.exe, it allows you to get the shine that was built into the model. I've used it for the Aerosoft A-10 and AF F-18.

Re: reducing reflections
Starting with the obvious question, have you got and/or checked the alpha for each paint?

Re: reducing reflections
i'm curious about the a-10 as well, i've recently done a bunch of paints but can't stand the shine. Definitely nothing to do with the alpha channel.

Re: reducing reflections
I actually got the dull models for the Aerosoft A-10 from the Aerosoft's site, but was told the author used this program. No way should a Hawg ever be shiny! I was able to get the shine removed from the Aerial Foundry F-18C/D with help from a painter that walked me through the process. You have to very careful with the program as it accesses the .mdl file.

Re: reducing reflections
Where can MDLMat.exe be found? I search FS & AVSIM, I'd be interested in trying it out...
Re: reducing reflections
Go to Martin Wright's site http://fly.to/MWGFX/ and choose Program List on the left of the page and click on the yellow dot to download

I got the program but I have no idea where to begin lol.
Re: reducing reflections
There is apparently a tutorial over at simouthouse in the FS2004 Others section, but as usual I'm having problems logging in again....

Re: reducing reflections
i've looked all over their site but haven't seen anything at all for the A-10 anymore...I must be overlooking something.Victory103 wrote:I actually got the dull models for the Aerosoft A-10 from the Aerosoft's site, but was told the author used this program. Re: reducing reflections
Would you care to do a walkthrough demo-ing the process using the Aerial Foundry F-18 as an example??Victory103 wrote:I actually got the dull models for the Aerosoft A-10 from the Aerosoft's site, but was told the author used this program. Re: reducing reflections
The EDA E-2C is tough as well, a link for the Alpha might be deep in the forums here. Might need to get those to add some "Top Aces" A-Jets to the new MAIW Canuck Hornets package.
