Well, I actually found some time to work on a beta only to find my monitor is so dark I can hardly type this.
I have contrast and brightness maxed out.
I have installed my back up vid card and monitor. And swapped them out to each other.
Nothing changed.
I have the lastest drivers available for my ancient GeoForce 2 MX card.
I have tried a monitor calibration wizard.
And now I've found that my system has not been archiving any restore points.
I've got a bad feeling I'm looking at a junk MOBO, but I'm just an average user.
So what do you guys think?
TIA,
KJ

Unfortunately there isn't really much anyone can do since you've tried the obvious issues. Since you changed both the card and the monitor I'm inclined to say it is either the mobo or the PSU. The next step in troubleshooting would be replacing each one of those with spares if you them handy.
Did you change anything in your computer prior to this problem? Any electrical storms? Loss of power?

Without any spare mobos or PSU you're kind of flying blind... no pun intended.
And since you say "...it's so old..." I assume you got a fair amount of life out of the product(s). Most of my mobos last anywhere between 3-6 years depending on frequency of use. I've only had to replace one PSU in my entire life and I never really figured out why it took a turn but it did.
