PDAI Lockheed TriStar

Post by shaggy22 »

Recently my dad has just started modelling ai aircraft for P3D & the first aircraft I asked him to do was the Lockheed TriStar as I thought it would be a fairly simple project, oh how wrong I was  . I would say we're about 95% complete now, there are a few creases that need ironing out but hopefully that shouldn't be too difficult.

Included will be models for the civvie fleets, the -200 & -500 series aircraft but also included will be 2 versions for the RAF based on the 500 series. & as a bonus the Stargazer aircraft with, & without, the Pegasus missile has been done as well. I will include a modern texture for it alongside the retro texture.

My dad has done all the modelling parts to this & is working on the fde as well, I have done the repaints & paint kits for them. I need to thank a few people as well, Mason Curling who has been instrumental in helping us especially with the animations side of it. Mike Person is also heling out with the texturing & the pbr side of things as well, massive thanks to you both, it is most appreciated.

I'll release these alongside some revamped VC10s as well to go with them, in essence a total overhaul of the paintkit & applying 2048x2048 textures to them to match the TriStars. The good thing about the VC10s in the late 90s is that they were in 3 different schemes, grey, white & desert pink, loads of colour at Brize Norton back in the day :D

Please ignore the fact the Pegasus missile looks a different colour & that the engine reverser is deployed, that's some of the issues we're working out.

Wow, that's really nice! I had given up hope of ever having the Stargazer in the sim.

Just a quick update on this one. We've had to redo the fuselage as there was a massive issue when the pbr texturing was applied. You can see said issue on the last picture as well which we missed at the time. So it's going to be a while longer yet sadly

Quick update, this project has been temporarily paused for now. We're closer to getting another aircraft out & we've switched priorities to that. My dad has also found some new mapping techniques as well so as well as redoing the model for the pbr textures it needs a remap as well. So when I previewed this I thought we were about 95% done, turns out we're about 25% done instead.

We'll get there eventually though, famous last words admittedly.

Another update for this:

The modelling has been completed, we're doing the Stargazer first as it's the most complicated model out of the ones we're planning to do. I'm about 75% there in doing the base paint for it as well, thankfully I could copy & paste the vast majority from the previous model. Once we're happy with it we'll then do the RAF examples, followed by standard 200 & 500 series aircraft. I'll show some pictures of it once we've got it in the sim & flying about.

Before anyone asks, there's no time frame on it yet however we're getting there & barring any major issues it won't be too long before this gets released, hopefully......

Thanks,
Dan

It's getting there. The animations are done, the base paint is 99% there, or thereabouts anyway. This is basically a 200 series as it looks now, but it will have the Stargazer parts & Pegasus missile applied, they're nearly done as well.

Well I'd say we're 99% there now, a few of the lights to sort out & a few other minor things. What I'll do is upload them to my drive along with the paintkit so people can have a look at it, expect this to happen in a couple of days or so. Then after a couple of weeks if no issue(s) arises we'll release then properly. Stargazer & the 200 series will be first, the 500 series aircraft (including the RAF models) will be after, but a fair while after. Just to stress, this will be for P3D v4 onwards only, no other support will be offered for FS9 or FSX as neither of us use it.

So I think we're all done, I've put it on my drive for people to take a look at. Please let me know if there are any issues that you come across, this one is for P3D v4.

Just in case anyone is interested, I decided to do the flight plans for this beautiful Tristar from Shaggy22.

It's never really busy so it's on a 8 week plan.

Enjoy!

The plane looks good. It is missing the lua script PDAI_TriStar 200.lua. There is a script folder in the download but there is only a txt file in there.

Edit: Any chance you could paint the Stragazer plan in its current livery?

Thanks Joseph, corrected the missing lua script, it won't let me attach it here so you'll have to re-download it again. Sorry about that.

As for doing the modern scheme, I won't be doing that one. I simply don't have the time to do it. The paintkit is in the package so perhaps someone else will have a pop it it.
