Yesterday, it was mentioned in the media that the german government will order 35x F-35 as replacement for the Tornados.

The german F-35 will be able to carry Nuclear Weapons.
The F-18 Growler wont be ordered.

Today it was told in the media that all 35x F-35A will be based in Büchel AB in Rheinland Pfalz in germany.

It is planned to invest 170 mio Euros for works and modernisations of the airbase.
For example new fences, new runway.

The works will be finished in 2026, so before the deliveries begin in 2027.

I am always interested in the ratio between those in operational use and those that will be going through maintenance at any one time. It decides the numbers on each Sqn. My guess here will be 12x operational Sqn, 18x Sqn with OCU role and 7 in various maintenance stages plus test role.

Instead of 35, 43x F-35A will be ordered by the german government.
