End of Life for MAIW?
End of Life for MAIW?
Am I watching the end of MAIW? No judgement; just curios. I am considering donating again, but uncertain ROI. No uploads in a month. Maybe two posts a day.
If indeed it is, thanks to all of the developer, FP writers, painters, object and base creators, moderators and librarians that made MAIW what it was.
Salute.

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
One (major) issue here is that many participants here have "real lives", meaning jobs, families, houses with attached gardens etc. etc., which sometimes takes priority over our beloved hobby...

Yes things are quiet but I am not overly concerned-the admins are currently busy with other site matters/life which probably explains the lack of a recent library update. Hopefully things will fall into place soon.
To go with Jorgen's point, having had some really excellent weather in the last couple of weeks I personally have done less with my current FS project. Certainly not abandoned it though.

Hello,
Exactly same here with family, job and lot of outside activities,
Anyway, things definitely are in progress, sometimes quietly, sometimes not, just check some recent posts and you'll find lot of new products uploaded just awaiting approval, when someone has difficulties, there is also always someone to answer
This is a great community which have and deserve time

And I know that a while ago Martin - bless him for all his tireless work - got a new job, I gather in some kind of an engineering/managerial position, with all that involves. Ugh.
I am so happy that I'm retired!

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
I have had two packages uploaded and awaiting processing for a few weeks now, but it's not bothering me. I know Martin is busy with real life, so that must take priority. In the meantime, I have been enjoying this unusual British weather and having a break from my PC to get out and about.
I'm more concerned about Steve (Firebird). I PM'd him nearly 4 weeks ago and the message is still showing as unread. He last posted here on the 14th April.
Anyone heard from him?

To all that responded:
Thanks for taking the time.
I apologize if I came across as demanding or impertinent. Never my intent. I wish nothing but the best for all involved in MAIW.
Cheers.

Mark,
I could believe that we all are just as impatient as you.
I certainly am...

Likewise John. There is no particular reason that I would hear from him but not answering a PM for a month is very unlike him. Greg or Martin may have his email.John Young wrote: 05 May 2025, 16:02 I'm more concerned about Steve (Firebird). I PM'd him nearly 4 weeks ago and the message is still showing as unread. Re: End of Life for MAIW?
I can tell you why my time is very limited at the moment.
Firstly, we are moving house. Secondly, the absurd politics that are currently dominating the world are putting an enormous strain on my professional work, which takes up the rest of my time.
Although we are not very visible at the moment, we are working hard on the MAIW website.

All my sympathies, Martin.
I suppose it was all made worse by what happened in the Bundestag today....

Don't get me started. I belive the one and only thing we need is a powerful and united Europe, more than ever. And look what people do. It makes me sad and angry.
Cheers,
Martin

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
Valid question for sure and as a long time user I've also noticed the activity decline. For me, I only keep P3D for my MAIW packages, having moved over to MSFS20 (will not touch 24) for the "flying" as payware devs no longer support FSX/P3D. If I could find a magic button to correctly port-over all MAIW packages to MSFS with a working AI engine, I would be set in my little flight sim world.

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
MAIW as an organisation ceased to exist years ago. What's left is the community and 3 admins struggling to keep things running.
Martin is taking over the site's hosting from me, so we're busy preparing the migration and that should assure everyone that we don't intend to turn the lights off just yet. For how much longer is now in Martin's hands.
It is also the reason why the donations link was removed from the site until Martin can find a way to accept some financial support from the community.

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
I might be one of the few 'left' from as near as damn it MAIW's start (with the first week or two anyway).
Long time ago but, I was part of one of the first packages released (paints).
Still working on Falcons for P3D but like as has been said, lots of other things pop-up that need taking care of.
Don't think Microsoft helped with the lack of AI support in their new releases, or the real pain it looks like it is to convert AI stuff to the new format!
Hopefully not the end, would be a shame after so many years (nearly 20 for me).

I do believe there's still (a lot of) life left in MAIW....

I don't believe we're near throwing dirt on the coffin yet. I'm painting F-35s like crazy and we've got a long way to go. Let's hang in there best we can. Still a lot to offer IMHO.

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
I wouldn't say MAIW is dead at all... I know I have quite a few things in the packaging / release queue myself:
1. The IL-76 VKP (IL-82)
2. The Carrier Skyraiders
3. Another small carriers scenery package (to show case the Phantoms)
4. Updated AH-64 Conversions where the gun and ball sensor follow the gunners head and the upper sensor follows the pilots head...
5. Dan and I's big 747 package...
Just to name a few... And at the moment I am in conjunction with Dan working on the "family car" version of the Skyraider... This is a preview pic Dan has them in his paint shop now for proper texturing... (hence the off looking colors)...
So plenty of exciting stuff to come in the future... Just patience is in order... I know from my end it takes me a lot of time and effort to make these models / conversions (blender work, mapping, MCX work, .xml coding, testing, repainting ect.) and I do have a life outside this place... This is a fun hobby for me but the real world takes priority... I know it takes Dan a ton of effort to do what he does... And I know it takes Martin a ton of effort to package and publish our work... and I know Dan and Martin have lives too... So patience and not assumptions of death... Please...

Re: End of Life for MAIW?
Just to reinforce what jetpilot said...
My process is ...
Research the country (currently doing Belgium)
Create the models ( and of course the BAF uses different F-16 models)
Do the paints / repaints
Do the flightplans
So it takes me quite a while, even when I have the time!
