While the Gripen is undergoing FDE setup

Post by Weescotty »

Had this from a long while back.

Will get -

2 x PC-9's out of it
1 x T-6 II

It's in one of the PC-9 configs at the moment, the USAF (main reason for model) paint is to check it works on it.

All main parts done, just pilots, covers and flags left.
All mian anims done, just the tick18 stuff left.

Fantastic. Looks like all systems go on my new MAIW package... Can't say too much at the moment but it will represent one of the smallest air arms in the World...

OK you guessed it! As there is not a freeware Cessna 172 I'm proposing to use the default C172 with new textures. Unless some one is making an AI Cessna 172 that I don't know about :D Aer Chór na hÉireann use them for Army co-operation flights.

Ok.....

Added -

2 seats
Intrument panels
2 inner flaps I didn't know about
Props
Wing lights, did stbd as landing light, port combined landing/taxi light

To do -

Pilots
tick18 anims
Misc texturing, also thinking of splitting tail off and making the texture area bigger to give better resolution.

Thanks.

Well thats it for today.

To do -
Tick18 anims, few minor texture issues.
Light positions are done by Magic mike :) , so incorrect for the time being.

Kev,

Have you done anything with the prop idle animation? One of the big problems I see with all AI prop aircraft is the unrealistic occurence of the prop idling at various points in both the VFR and IFR patterns. Rip actually deleted it totally in his AN-2 model, so, although quite drastic, that is one possible solution. :(

Hey guys:
prop_still - just like a prop should look
prop_slow - the trick is here - just exact copy of the following:
prop_blurred - a both-side textured (with ALPHA) rectangle
...and we are done.
We can well live without a canonical slow propeller as FS engine is faulty here. I found prop_blurred to be enough realistic also in prop_slow place.

Hey Rip,

I did what you suggested on the latest model of the P-3 and it works fine. However, I don't have a clue about alpha channels. What are they? Where are they? Is this a model issue or a texture issue and if so is it handled in the part properties dialog or in the .bmp?
:? :D
Thanks

@Mike: You should have my latest P-3. Check the prop anims and see if its working OK

Jake,
ALPHA is a feature
This is a 4-th channel, like R,G,B but handles opacity, not color.
You deal with this channel using capable tools like DXTBmp or a pair that I prefer much: PSP and imagetool.
I'm sure true repainters will help you better, however here's a tutorial that I wrote quite time ago:

Reflective canopy
Better prop disk
Chrome spinner (may tune this down a little)

Will post info on probs using tranparent and reflections in another thread.

Here she is at Shppard AFB.

Had to check, because she's bigger than the T-37 and was a little surprised.

But yup right enough
Wingspan is the same, but the T-6 is taller and longer than the T-37.

Wanted to add the prop covers, but you can't guarentee the prop always stops in the same place.

PSULS - If you give me the RGB values for the blue you used I'll match them up.
