I don't know how you guys go about checking your flightplans for accuracy and "to be sure they work"... One of the ways that I do it is simply to fly along side... This not only gets my head out of the "research/book mode", I also get to experience why I like flight simming - that is, it's FUN!.

So, the below pic is one of those fly-alongs -- over Primorske region heading towards an ASW patrol. The AI aircraft is the TU-95 Bear substituing for a TU-142.

Since the last post here was made pretty long ago I was wondering if there are still plans on russian MAIW packages and if you still work on this. I do NOT ask for a release date

I would really appreciate a Russian / Warsaw Pact MAIW package. Just to get some variation alongside all those F-16's, F-15's and C-130's. (Wich are nevertheless great too!)

As soon as someone comes up with proper Russian AI models.

Indeed, imagine all those Tu-22M's, Tu-95's and Tu-160's flying around all over Russia :o

Thanks to alpet (Alex) in the EvolveAI forums I found a site with russian military AI models.

http://azatov.mylivepage.ru/file/index

Click on:

Модели военного трафика = military AI models

I am not sure if they are really AI ones and I am not able to verify that. Could someone try the models from there and let me know ? In case you need some help with the kyrillic letters feel free to contact me.

As I am not familiar with modelling I would like to know what makes an aircraft "AI". I have heard of multi-LOD and number of polygons. How many LODs (5, 7, 10 ?) should an AI model have at least and what should be the maximum number of polygons (2,000, 4,000 or 10,000?) ?

@bismarck:
Looked at the page again. You are right: some models are from the UNNT package where the aircraft folder names end with TOLM ("Толмачёво"). But I was thinking more about the SU-17. Is this one AI ?

Most of the Soviet aircraft that I downloaded from this particular site, http://azatov.mylivepage.ru/file/index, seem to be repaints of existing models. 1 of them is the Flanker_export file that I already have, but with additional repaints. The Frogfoot is the same as well as the Mig21.
I think I would be safe to say that these files have been taken from other sites and posted there. But some do appear to have new repaints added to them.

I dont' believe these to be AI specific, but more of a dumbed down flyable version which will work as AI on faster computers.

And just to be clear. I AM NOT accusing anyone of piracy. :-)

This of couse, is just my opinion.

There are no hard and fast rules. Models that were originally designed as flyable aircraft obviously are not AI.

The aircraft that we use here usually have about 7 LODs. Obviously, depending on the aircraft...the number of polys will differ.

@ Sprocky.
The SU-17 its an "only-texture" file for Kazunori Ito aircraft.
I haven't install it but I don't think that it is a multi LOD a/c

I have found that quite a lot of Kazonuri Ito's work fairly well as AI aircraft.

There is a new Il76 that was released a few weeks ago.
Other than that nothing that I'm aware of.

I use the Su27 by Bill Wolfgen.
There are many repaints available for this model.

Not a true AI model but it works well on my old machine.

Also, there is an An225 with the Buran. And I just saw some flightplans at Avsim for this. Fictional of course but they are quite useable.

"The market" have to grow a little more. The biggest pressure here is for Western AI first (what is obvious) and when this is somehow fulfilled then the time for helis and Eastern AI should come ... I hope before FSIX arrives :)
