Typhoon replacement

Post by Firebird »

I am surprised that nobody else has mentioned it so I will.

I thought it was very interesting to read about the BAe follow on to the Typhoon, the historically chosen follow on name of the Tempest.

I know its only a full scale mockup now but I remember the excitement that the EAP mockup made all those years ago at Farnborough.

What do others think?

An interesting concept. I wonder how close the production model will be to these designs if/when it gets to the stage of full scale
testing and then into service.

Indeed.
My guess would be that quite close as the EAP wasn't too far off the Typhoon, but I would think that the Tempest would be closer as a lot of the systems are going into the upgraded Typhoons.
Also, if you are testing stealth then you are going to build it as close to the finished article as possible or all that area of research would be pointless.
